Fox said he is hoping one of his assistants will be a former App player. That he has reached out to this individual and hopes he will come. One assistant (unnamed) starts tomorrow.
Alvin Gentry!!!!

On a serious note, it looks like our assistant salaries will be high enough that we aren't going to be hiring someone with no experience. That only leaves a few options: McMahon (unlikely); Ahmad Smith (very possible); Darryl Robinson (we've tried this before, but maybe he wants to give it a shot again - has his wife retired?). I'm sure I'm missing some former players who have moved into coaching. Any thoughts?
I would think that Nate Healy would be a good fit, if he's interested. I know he doesn't coach right now, but his style of play would fit right in with the Davidson style that Fox has been accustomed to.

As a friend of Nate's, I can say that I think he'd be a really good coach if that's the direction he wanted to take. He's got great knowledge of the game, he can relate to players, knows how to play multiple positions and on top of that, he's very smart. If he wanted to coach then I'm sure he'd be very successful. I haven't heard anything from him that suggests he's tired of playing overseas right now, but it'd be cool to see him back in Boone one day.

Are Kellen Brand and Jeremy Clayton still playing in the ABA? Is there anyone else still playing semi-pro or euro ball?

D Sims, Donte Minter, Jeremy Clayton, Doug McLoughlin Williams, Davis Bowne, Abraham, Bermudez maybe?, DJ Thompson, among others.

The late stages of Fancher's tenure produced quite a few Euro players.

If Nate flew home after his Eredivise game on Wednesday (21 pts, 11 boards, 3 steals) and left his team with three games left (two on the 13th, one of the 19th), then yes it's a possibility, but I doubt it.

TDog listed the 11 remaining players in his blog which includes a couple walk-ons. Has Gilbert left the program?

We will have a few scholarship roster spots available. The NCAA limit is 13 although I'm assuming we could be held to 12 due to APR. It will be interesting to see how Fox uses the remaining spots. Hopefully we can re-recruit Flomo.

Unreal. Of all the players on the roster, Toney had the most to gain in a new system. But, if he's not up to the pressure of getting better, then off with him! Hope he finds what he's looking for; and above all gets his degree.

Based upon observations (mine and others), ASU basketball will be losing...

Tevin Baskin (Graduation--Congrats, Tev)
Jay Canty (never returned from suspension)
Aaron Scott
Rantavious Gilbert
Ty Toney

All three of our signed recruits (Graham, Flomo and Worrell) have been released.

That leaves us with 8 scholarship players. There still could be more turnover. Tom Spagnolo is still awaiting a ruling from the NCAA on his medical hardship application.

Godspeed to Coach Fox and his assistants who'll be living on the road and out of a suitcase for *at least* the next 30 days. The late signing period begins on Wednesday, April 16 and runs through May 21.

Good Luck to Coach Fox and the staff he hires. We need to hope for a couple of diamonds to come out of the late signing period.

Mix of a juco or two with a couple late HS finds would be ideal.

I think we'll see Fox be judicious with his offers this year. Better to take our lumps with an undermanned roster next year than to reach for guys we wouldn't normally offer and have them tie up scholarships for the next four years.

It will be interesting to see the route Fox decides to go with recruiting. Does he go after transfers and JUCO players to start a quick rebuild, or does he write off the first 2 seasons to go with a large freshmen class? Maybe so e place in the middle? Of course we dont know how many scholarships we'll even have at this point. Let the rebuilding begin!

There just aren't that many Junior Colleges left comparatively.

If the rumors about Rand are true, then it's down to 10.

1. Tab Hamilton
2. Mike Neal
3. Mike Kobani
4. Michael Obacha
5. Mitch Purgason'
6. Dustin Clarke
7. Frank Eaves
8. Chris Burgess
9. Tommy Spagnolo (maybe)
10. Jacob Lawson

I get my numbers mixed up here and there cause I forget about Lawson.

If you're talking about the 2014 class, I don't see how he could sign a large class of HS players without making some significant compromises in quality. It's just too late in the cycle.

I think Fox tries to grab 2-3 players wherever he can find them, then looks for a big class next year (assuming any scholarship restrictions are over by then).

I think he needs to go find the two smartest kids he can and give them scholarships to sit on the bench, make good grades, and tutor the rest of the team. :ugeek:

I say if we can find players who can do it on the court and in the classroom then head to Mars if we have to.

We're down to 8 scholarship players, including Lawson and Spagnolo. Pergason and Clarke are walk-ons; unless they manage to benefit from attrition. If they get scholarships, we're in for a 2-26 season. That's only if we play Lees-McRae and Montreat.

If Spagnolo gets another year we have a team with 3 seniors, 4 juniors and a sophomore. Fox will probably stick with 3-4 freshmen this recruiting year (depending on the APR issues) then go with 2-3 freshmen and 2 jr college guys next year to get the classes balanced out. That will give him a 2015-16 roster with 4 seniors, 3 juniors, 3-4 sophomores, and 2-3 freshmen.

Does anyone know who the assistant coaches are yet?
