Re: Texas State "heavy favorite" to join Pac-12, LaTech favored to join Sun Belt
We are who we are. I like our current regional footprint. Real rivalries, low travel costs. Going to AAC (which is being plucked) or a Pac 12, that's not a good move imho. All we have is football, basketball is good now until our coach is poached. Plus we have a new coach, and who knows if we'll be successful in football.
The AAC's tv money is about to be cut in half with the departures of their premium programs, and will still be more than Sun Belt, but I'd rather keep our current rivals. Not only do we have Marshall, but new rivalries have developed like James Madison and Coastal. I like the passion more than traveling to the west coast for whoever is in the new Pac conference.

If we went to AAC, would we bring Georgia Southern along after us like last time?

I’d think no. Marsha or Jimmy Mads are probably more desirable to the AAC.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 7:30 pmIf we went to AAC, would we bring Georgia Southern along after us like last time?

I like where we are. I also like keeping our opinions open.

I asked someone about Southern. He said basically that we don’t need them. Everyone looks after their own best interests .

Is it fair to assume a reconstituted “PAC-12” will have the clout to pull a favorable TV deal? Please forgive me if I don’t feel very confident about the prospects.
I’m also wondering about Memphis and Tulane, but more so the Green Wave. If Sumrall keeps things rolling down there, I could see Tulane scoring a P4 invite. They already fit the mold in many ways.

I think we did when we first came up but I agree with that thought now. If the roles were reversed I have no doubt they would leave us. I would rather take Marshall, JMU, Southern Miss, ODU, or Troy with us if we left.

I don't love the AAC setup in general, but the thought of having two in-state conference mates along with some of our current SBC brethren is intriguing. I'm just not sure how ECU could make the financials work to join the SBC. They would be a perfect fit though. I can take or leave UNCC, but they are close by and would provide an easy trip for our alumni to watch multiple sports play.

The only way the PAC would work for us is if they had an entire eastern division of nine or ten teams. That, to me, would be worth considering depending on who is in and what TV would pay.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 7:03 pmWe are who we are. I like our current regional footprint. For football, only need 8 more if stay with 8 conference games and 4 nonconference games. The problem becomes other sports and travel.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 7:56 amThe only way the PAC would work for us is if they had an entire eastern division of nine or ten teams. IMO the 2 instate rivals don’t outweigh Marsha+CCU+south ga+Jimmy mads. Yes it’s nice to host uncc in Charlotte every other year but we have a long term series anyway. They suck at basketball and we suck at baseball.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 7:52 amI don't love the AAC setup in general, but the thought of having two in-state conference mates along with some of our current SBC brethren is intriguing. It’s the service academies that make the aac appealing. Memphis too but I’m assuming they’ll be gone if the aac comes around.
Finances didn’t work last time, I’ve heard both we couldn’t meet their revenue requirement and that their package they offered wouldn’t have netted us any additional money. Probably both true.

Could we fix that if football and basketball unionize so we have a CBA and then lower the minimum of sports to be D1? I am wondering if something happens due to the Title IX lawsuits? If the whole argument is due to revenue sharing then we need to do something with how we classify sports and make them show they bring in revenue in order to get a share of the pie, right?BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 8:00 amFor football, only need 8 more if stay with 8 conference games and 4 nonconference games. Yes it is funny. Expected to join a “12” team conference that no longer exists.

The Ragin Cajuns want no part of LaTech joining the Sun Belt. I believe that would be a hard sell. https://forumeus.com/showthread.php/333 ... Belt/page4

I love the idea of 12 east 12 west and play a championship game but no regular season conference games. I wish we would quit begging p4s to play and make our own set up that the champion would get the the g5 spot. Retain the rights to that championship game. If the top 24 teams from g6 are in this conference the champion should always get the g5 spot.
