Aguilar to the portal
Not what I wanted for Christmas.

Does this mean we have $150k more to spend for next year?

Figured either he wouldn't want to be back or the new staff wouldn't want him. Surprised that Makai came back with Joey leaving though.

Joey has reasons to stay “IF” he wants to stay. He loves Boone and his girlfriend is still in school.

I guess we find out how much he “loves” Boone.

“ I’ll buy you a diamond ring my friend if it makes you feel alright….I’ll get you anything my friend if it makes you feel alright….cause I don’t care too much for money, but money can’t buy me love”

Is Joey a Beatles kind of guy?

True, I thought his message could go either way on instagram. Still has his TP post on X.

I think App would have to take a measured approach. Not all players coming out of high school get paid ...maybe none...once the talent gets on campus. You see what you got..like Nate Johnson, etc...then you consider the multi year contract. If someone like Nate turns out to be great, then a buyout happens. Unless someone wins the lottery and gives it all to App, we are not competing on nil every year. However, we can try to be strategic.
Maybe the do, however, I do not believe every Power school is paying every player nil money, are they?
If this all ends up where it is heading, employer/employee legal/contractual relationship, then there will not be any amateur status left. I could potentially see the "base" contract being the scholarship (call it the "minimum") and then certain other athletes will get additional components in their contract. But in that scenario, just like any employment contract there will be stipulations even in the base for some level of performance or expectation from the "base" athlete. If you don't meet it then there will be opt outs.

That’s why pulling for the name on the back of the jersey is so 2022.

There would need to be a strategic plan. The reality is that we are going to have a difficult time holding on to guys that deserve more and can get more than we can give. We didn’t have the $250k to keep McLeod. Everett, who we benched, got 50k from Oklahoma. Would folks here think $50k for a center to be justifiable?
That is my whole point. There needs to be a plan. If a guy has got it, like Nate Johnson, lock him up early. We are still potentially going to lose him to Power school if he is that good, however, we get some return on the investment to use on other players.

Under the current situation players can get what the market will pay. I for one hope the bottom completely falls out of the market. It’s going to be hard but I’m going to do my best not to watch the CFP. I hope it gets fixed because I really loved college football. The university need to remember that they have the brands and without a place to play all the athletic ability in the world has very limited value. Playing for a “brand” is the only thing that creates value. The institution that own the “brands” can decide if they want to try to save college football or swallow the poison pill.
I feel your pain.

4 year deals will not be market for 95% of players.

The G5 split is inevitable to the broader point.
4 year deals should not be the market for 95% of all college players.
You asked a question and gave a 4 year deal as an example…

It was a hyperbolic example thus my response.

It is 100% hyperbolic. And my comment wasn’t in disagreement with your statement. Less than 2% of college football players make it to the NFL and more importantly, the number of players that enter the portal that don’t exit supports both.

As the person who feel for the reel of Makai saying he's going to play again while wearing App State gear, oh well.

Honestly, some of y'all are the worst with constant doomerism across multiple threads. It's tiring. You constant feed negativity into your lives and it shows. I'm prone to negativity at times, but I can't live being that way all the time. I say my piece and move along.

In the recent past there are transfers coming in to balance out the losses. Right now it is looking like the biggest rebuilding year ever. Combined with watching others play in the bowls and basketball not doing well isn't going to make for many happy people.

You definitely weren't the only one touting his return due to that reel. I believe that was an intentional deke, and we fell for it.
