What did the west tower take - 2 seasons? 25 seems like a long shot, but 26 should be pretty reasonable (barring major supply chain issues or something crazy like a global pandemic)
Does the east tower plan include any updates to east side seating or are they going to tack a multi million dollar state of the art structure onto a Lego set? Lower section is crumbling, upper section is cheap high school bleachers.

It would be a perfect time to install individual chair backs (at least between the 30s). Idk if the State of NC code is changing similarly, but UF is having to widen seats and widen aisles to meet code. Between that and other voluntary changes the Swamp is set to reduce capacity from 88k to 75k.
Widening the seats would be nice. It would cut down on capacity as you alluded too and would force some people out of sections and into lower donation sections. Chairbacks between the 30s would be nice. I wonder what that cost would be for those patrons because you know they will add to the price tag to offset the lost revenue with a lower capacity.

What would you like to see them do with the bleachers on the top level? I’m not sure what they could do in place of the aluminum bleachers. I’m sure the new brick facade will make a difference from the outside at least.
The brick facade will be nice and long overdue.

I fear that we are stuck with the aluminum forever though. The best thing would have been to build them out of concrete and steel and going back to square one with that probably just isn’t feasible. Of course I’m no engineer but my guess is all they *could* do now is spray the under side with some kind of sound deadening stucco-like coating and upgrade some of the materials used for the railings, walkways, etc to make it feel less like aluminum. Again, not an engineer so those are just guesses.

They’d have to offset the revenue lost by widening the seats and expanding aisles by building new permanent seating elsewhere. On the hill, a deck above the hill, connecting the sideline seating to the NEZ complex and installing new seats there. New seating to make up for the capacity lost due to code enforcement.

UF is losing a large chunk of their proposed 15,000 seat reduction because code requires them to. If NC stadiums are subject to the same code and NC chooses to enforce it those same changes could very well be coming to KBS whether we like it or not.

The west side is definitely not up to today’s code, nor was it up to code when the built the West tower. If you notice, the Ricks Center isn’t connected to the west stands. That was done intentionally because of it were, then they would have had to make modifications to the stands to get them into code.

At the time those stands may have been in such shape that they didn’t need to be addressed. I don’t remember. But we weren’t in a position to be very forward thinking at that point.

Off the top of my head I know that both Oregon State and Vandy have completely demo’d a side of their stadium and are rebuilding. Is available money for the rebuild the only thing stopping App from doing the same?

To the best of my knowledge, yes. There are other things that are higher on the list. I’d imagine we know we will lose capacity once we start making those additions/updates and we need to know how we will account for that before going whole hog.

In an ideal world, I win the powerball tomorrow night, and there aren’t as many concerns as today. In reality, we’re constrained by availability of funding with many competing priorities. It’s amazing how far we’ve come in 15 years - from 12k seats and a press box that had no room for press or suites to what we have now. Think what we’ll be looking at in 15 more years.

Cobb fumbled the stadium expansion big time. He knew he wasn't going to be here long enough to see the full benefits so he pieced it together with zero future plans because he simply didn't care about the future.

The east tower will hide a lot of the aluminum and make it look less piece meal, but it is less than ideal. I know there are plans to make it look more uniform, but not entirely sure what those plans are.

One of DGs first things after taking the job was look in to panting the east bleachers but it wasn't fiscally responsible to do at that time -- instead they went with updating the walls with low maintenance items.

DG and company have a master plan for the stadium and are typically forthcoming with information on it if you ask them in person. They won't give you full details or timelines (mainly because they don't know yet), but the plan is solid in my opinion. They just have to be smart and very intentional with each step.

Also, columns were added initially due to poor engineering (although, my understanding is that was due to the soil more than the building itself) but they were added in a way they can handle connecting both sides. The connection was always in the plan, just not the way it will now. And, it will be less expensive (well, maybe not in today's inflationary world) than the initial plan.

I don't agree with the sentiment that Cobb didn't care. I think he got promoted beyond his capabilities so it's easy to assume malice when lack of competence is a better explanation. That was my opinion of Cobb. Good guy, definitely a post turtle in the position he was in but not because he didn't care.

I’m just hoping the future connection will hide the fact the NEZ complex was built off-center. It may not bother some people but it’s always bugged me.

always bothered me as well. truly WHY?

the west side of the stadium isn't enjoyable at all. Needs to be torn down.

I imagine it was based on where the footprint could go in relation to the space. The building itself isn’t symmetrical in design as the weight room is off to one side.

Gosh, so the whole stadium needs to be rebuilt? If you thought the per seat charge is high now...

I always figured it was offset to balance out the weight distribution with the end that had Coach Moore's office in it since his nuts might throw it off otherwise.

Wi-Fi, it’s not that difficult.
Why do you need Wi-Fi to watch a live football game?
You can’t simply enjoy the live event you’re at. How old are you?
College football fan who loves keeping up with other games. Old enough to love the game.
