How exactly would seats on the hill prevent a mass rush of people in a celebratory mood? While it’s unfortunate that this happened, I don’t see how this is on the university. They put up a barrier.
It's not about stopping a celebration. 99% of injuries from rushing courts and fields don't happen in the mob they happen during the rush. It actually is on the university as they willingly allow the usage of a slippery and well-known injury potential location to be used as seating. That is 100% on them, like it or not. Take the university out of the picture and apply slipping and falling on another business's property and breaking your leg. It was your choice to walk where you did, but that business is still probably getting sued for having what could be considered an unsafe foot traffic area. Don't think about it like an App fan; think about it like a lawyer.
As far as preventing the whole situation goes, it will only be a matter of time before governing bodies decide rushing fields has to go when a player on an opposing team somewhere gets seriously injured when fans rush, and that player sues or if a fan viciously attacks a player and kills them or if the player retaliates and kills the fan. It isn't a matter of if but when and where it will happen. While I love that people get a chance to let out their celebratory emotions, everyone has to admit that the whole storming of a field or court is a potentially dangerous situation.
