I was at APP '91-'95 and playing Marshall was some of our biggest games. I remember being on the sideline 15 feet away from Randy Moss, ours corners gave him what felt like a 20 yard cushion of space and he still torched us. One year Marshall was ranked #1 in FCS and they played in KBS. We won and KBS was rocking. We tore the goal post down and threw it in duck pond.

Ha...I remember that game. We scored the go ahead touchdown off an interception in the 4th I jumped out of the stands and carried the Giant App flag All the way around the track and taunted the Marshall fans.

I thought I had read that we already had a home and home series planned with Marshall in the next few years. Did we re-work a deal that was already planned...or did I just imagine that we had them on a future schedule.

P.S. I would still like for us to be in a conference with them again. That was a great rivalry back in the early to mid 80's. I still remember the first time the "Herd" rolled into Boone my first year on campus. I can't forget them knocking off our #1 seeded Mountaineers in 1987 after we had defeated Georgia Southern the previous week on a snowy Boone day. That loss put the "Herd" in the National Championship game in Pocatello, Idaho where they lost to the #2 seed Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe) 43-42. Lots of Idaho Potatoes were left on the turf in Boone after our loss to Marshall.

We now have four games scheduled with the Turds.

Thanks...I thought we might have rearranged the games already scheduled with Marshall just to get one this year. This explains it.

They lost a scheduled game hosting Boise State this year, so I am sure they are glad to pick us up.

The Marshall series is one of my most anticipated games on future schedules, now I am happy that we now get a chance to beat them on an earlier date. The only school I hate worse is Furman, and it really is neck and neck. Old hate dies slowly. My first year at was 88 and I didn't know anything about either team, then I watched both of them win National titles during my time at App and the hatred was cemented for a lifetime. The old SoCon had some seriously good teams in IAA, the hatred is based on respect for those teams. Probably why I have no hatred for Western, they never showed me anything on the field to garner even the slightest level of respect. Honestly, felt more like a sacrificial lamb being led to slaughter everytime Western suited up against us. Never felt that way against the Herd, and I doubt it will next month either. Really excited about this game.

When I was at App, I bought a T-shirt that had “Furman Sucks” on the front. It said something less flattering about Marshall on the back.

Yeah, and they still swallow, lols. My brother actually made that shirt (stole the idea from another rivalry shirt we saw) and our fraternity sold them as a fund raiser. When my kids were young my wife cut mine up to use as a rag because she thought the message was inappropriate for small children. Guess she was right but I still miss that shirt.

My cousin had one of those from ECU where NC State swallows. I had the unfortunate occurrence of being at my Grandmother’s house and sitting there as she was folding his laundry. Didn’t say a word. I just slowly died inside.
