Re: Schedule
Better to schedule road games this year IMO. Save the home games for when we can fill the stadium (and, you know, be confident the game will actually happen).appfanjj wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:02 pmDoubt we will schedule anything on 10-3 unless some things get moved around big time. At UL on 10-7 and that’s the most important game on our schedule. A 9-5 game against a P5 would be nice. Would liked to have had Marshall at home but glad to have it anywhere. Thanks for all your hard work DG!

Re: Schedule
With all the canceled teams/seasons, that very well could be the first ever conference game between Top 25 ranked teams in Sun Belt history. I'm so excited for this season. Everyone just keep washing your hands.

Sounds like someone who has no knowledge of our history. Hated these guys before the Iggles ever came around. I will admit, I’ve followed college sports for 10 years. I’m just bummed we have 0 P5 games. I’m not unappreciative of having a game, but I love knocking down the big fellasBUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:03 pmSounds like someone who has no knowledge of our history. Understandable. We all wish we still had a P5 in there - or at least WakeTheAppalachianState wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:09 pmI will admit, I’ve followed college sports for 10 years. Still recall the two home games V Marshall back in ‘82-‘86. I was blown away by the number of fans who traveled to our place. They packed the visitor side. Gotta give them props

Re: Schedule
I was at APP '91-'95 and playing Marshall was some of our biggest games. I remember being on the sideline 15 feet away from Randy Moss, ours corners gave him what felt like a 20 yard cushion of space and he still torched us. One year Marshall was ranked #1 in FCS and they played in KBS. We won and KBS was rocking. We tore the goal post down and threw it in duck pond.

Went to the NCSU game at Marshall a few years back with some buddies who are State fans and the Marshall fans were the most welcoming I’ve ever experienced.

Re: Schedule
I remember them traveling well and bringing big crowds for basketball games in Varsity Gymnasium in 89' and 90'. Total attendance of 6,400 fans in '89, second only to the ETSU game.

When I was at App in the early 80’s, I could not stand Marshall and still can’t. They do travel well.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:03 pmSounds like someone who has no knowledge of our history. I have nothing bad to say about Marshall. They’ve done well as a program and they have good fans. I like rooting for them in honor of the old so con representative who’s moved up.

Re: Schedule
Remember a home game in the 90's. My son who was around 11 or 12, and I were tailgating in the old Railey lot. His school was selling candy bars as a fund raiser and he had brought some with him to try to sell. In rolls 3 or 4 tour buses full of Marshall fans and they start setting up tailgates in the adjacent section of Railey. My son in his App State gear gets all the boxes of candy he can carry and heads out in the middle of the Marshall crowd. Sold every single bar he had!! One guy bought two boxes and told my son that he deserved a good sale for having the moxie to venture into that Herd crowd wearing App gear!!

Thanks...I thought we might have rearranged the games already scheduled with Marshall just to get one this year. This explains it.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:12 pmWe now have four games scheduled with the Turds.AppYosef! wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:08 pmI thought I had read that we already had a home and home series planned with Marshall in the next few years. Did we re-work a deal that was already planned...or did I just imagine that we had them on a future schedule.
P.S. I would still like for us to be in a conference with them again. That was a great rivalry back in the early to mid 80's. I still remember the first time the "Herd" rolled into Boone my first year on campus. I can't forget them knocking off our #1 seeded Mountaineers in 1987 after we had defeated Georgia Southern the previous week on a snowy Boone day. That loss put the "Herd" in the National Championship game in Pocatello, Idaho where they lost to the #2 seed Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe) 43-42. Lots of Idaho Potatoes were left on the turf in Boone after our loss to Marshall.

Re: Schedule
The Marshall series is one of my most anticipated games on future schedules, now I am happy that we now get a chance to beat them on an earlier date. The only school I hate worse is Furman, and it really is neck and neck. Old hate dies slowly. My first year at was 88 and I didn't know anything about either team, then I watched both of them win National titles during my time at App and the hatred was cemented for a lifetime. The old SoCon had some seriously good teams in IAA, the hatred is based on respect for those teams. Probably why I have no hatred for Western, they never showed me anything on the field to garner even the slightest level of respect. Honestly, felt more like a sacrificial lamb being led to slaughter everytime Western suited up against us. Never felt that way against the Herd, and I doubt it will next month either. Really excited about this game.
