I’m wore out today as I tried every combination of seat changes, clothing changes, etc. Nothing worked to turn the game around. It’s still great to be a Mountaineer!!!

Please don't take me wrong, we have come a long way and have a very successful program. However, it seems that every time we have an opportunity to "turn the corner" we fail. Maybe "opportunity" (whatever form it takes) will present itself again soon and we will take advantage.

Meanwhile, "back at the ranch", Watauga plays Freedom tonight for first place in the conference. Here's wishing the Pioneers the best!!! :D
This is something that I've been thinking a lot about this morning. Every time that the Mountaineers have an opportunity to really put together something special, the opportunity is squandered. HOWEVAH! I also think this is very much a football first world problem. We are complaining because we aren't yet widely considered one of the best teams in the G5 in our FOURTH YEAR of D1 football. NOBODY has been as successful as App State at transitioning from FCS to FBS.

I also think that we will have a lot of opportunities to "turn the corner" in the near future. I have even considered making a separate post about this. Compare the out-of-conference schedules of App and the Stink over the next few years. Southern is playing a lot of SEC and Big 10 teams on the road. App on the other hand, has games against UNC, Wake Forest, ECU, and South Carolina; with some of those being at home and neutral sites. We win a couple of those games, and keep the losses respectable, and that's going to be a huge boost to our recruiting base and overall profile of the school.

Go Pioneers!!

WOW, I am as disappointed as anyone on this board. Last night we were not the better team. Team consists of depth and the ability to work through the loss of key players. So my hats off to GS. I don't remember too many games that we had so much go against us in lack of penalties called on our opponent and some called on us that were not apparent. I think losing Fehr was almost as big as losing Zach. We have great talent behind Fehr but they were young and were out of place a lot on those gaping runs. I have a ton of faith in our team but were not ready last night with our young backups. They will get better.

When opportunity presents itself, APPears it's always squandered. As someone else said earlier, this has to be one of the worst losses in App State Football history
I'd put it right there with the VMI loss in 1994 and the playoff loss to Maine in the conversation of the most embarrassing performances in App history.
Nope, this equals Va Tech and Liberty in epic proportion

The sky is not falling. Tonight sucked and hurts bad right now. We are the 3rd youngest football team in the FBS remember. We just got ranked for the first time ever. This season is not over. I cannot think of much else that could have gone wrong for App in this game tonight. The stink still has to play Troy and 3 other conference games. Hopefully they lose one or 4 of those games. IF we get our crap together, and play like we know we can, we can still win the division (with a little help). I have not given up on the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Boone on 1Dec18.

Beat Coastal!!
I admire your optimism but what you're asking would require a major miracle. Both teams have four games remaining in the regular season--Apps two home, two away...Iggles three home, one away. If App wins out (7-1) and if the Iggles lose at Troy (7-1) then the Iggles would win the tie-breaker (over the Apps) by a mere 20 points. I love my Apps but to ask them to reel off four wins in a row while hoping the Iggles lose at home to either ULM, Coastal or Ga State is downright unrealistic. The Black & Gold need more than just a little help.

I'm leaving Troy pretty much out of this discussion, but they have the toughest road to a championship with games against Tx State (home) and ULL (home) & Ga Sou and App (away).

At least, Troy and Ga Sou control their own destiny. The Apps--not so much.
Yep, I absolutely needed me some optimism to not go out on a ledge last night after that dang game. Thanks for explaining the conference situation going forward....so you are saying there is a chance!

Give Em Hell!!

Final:

Watauga 35

Freedom 16

Takes a lot of the sting off from last night's disaster. Probably makes Satt feel better to, his son plays for Watauga. Go Pioneers!!
