Southern Miss was going to cancel, this is the only way we could stay in control of the situation. In 2018 USM's program should be much improved and back to where they were in the past.
Lets beat them Cowboys!

Well said. That is a factor many don't seem to get.Saint3333 wrote:S. Miss. will be better but App will be much better and deeper.

All those under the radar recruits they used to get they now have far more competition for. Online recruiting sites have made hidden gems far less common and they now have more competition in their backyard than they used to from other CUSA and SBC teams. Even if they're just losing 3-4 players a year that they would have gotten in the past to other CUSA/SBC teams, over the course of 4 years, that is potentially several starter quality players that are now playing for someone else.
I personally don't see them ever turning their program back around to where it used to be. Why live in a dumpy little town in MS for a program that is now a dumpster fire when you can live in nice cities or vibrant college towns?
Maybe I'm wrong, La Tech is recruiting well right now afterall and they're in a dumpy little town too, but I just don't see it personally.
I'll be cheering for USM since they're in CUSA, but I don't think it'll be a close game at all.
So basically you are saying you think App may rout USM. Maybe the 66-0 scrimmage we had last week got some peoples attention.Niner National wrote:I wouldn't be surprised to see you guys beat USM by 3 TDs this year. USM is terrible.
IMO it is more of an indictment on Southern Miss. They got throttled by Miss St worse than we did by Michigan and it took 4 FG's and a +4 turnover margin against Alcorn State to squeak out a win 26-20. Alcorns top two rushers had a combined 22 carries at over 12 yards per carry. We ran well on on Michigan so I like our chances on the ground against that abysmal run D.AtlAppMan wrote:So basically you are saying you think App may rout USM. I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to mean.Gonzo wrote:Niner National wrote:I wouldn't be surprised to see you guys beat USM by 3 TDs this year. USM is terrible.

At this level, one bad coaching hire can set you back a decade or more.EastHallApp wrote:I know you're probably just setting us up for a fall, NN, but I hope you're right about this year's game. I'd be thrilled with a win by any margin, though.
As for USM in the future, I wouldn't give up on them yet. They're just three years removed from finishing in the top 20 nationally, and they have a lot of winning tradition. They made a disastrous coaching hire, and they haven't recovered from it. But whether it's Monken or someone else, eventually I think they'll find a solid coach to get them back where they were for years.
ah no, definitely not sandbagging. USM is really bad. I also don't care much for their fans.TheMoody1 wrote:Niner National wrote:I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to mean.

Please, let's not discuss basketball or basketball attendance just yet...I'm still trying to forget App's last season and now the upheaval in the Lady Apps coaching ranks.Niner National wrote:At this level, one bad coaching hire can set you back a decade or more.EastHallApp wrote:I know you're probably just setting us up for a fall, NN, but I hope you're right about this year's game. If USM was in just about any other state, I would be far less inclined to give up on them.
They've been left behind through several rounds of re-alignment and I think their aging fanbase is finally just going to stop giving a damn.
If they can salvage the program in the next 2 years they might be okay. It is hard to build your fanbase though when you have a class or two of students that go completely through school without tasting success. I see it with Charlotte basketball myself. When I was a freshman back in 2005, the student section was always completely full on the bottom with the upper level 50-75% full. Now we've had two full classes of students come and go without seeing much in the way of success. Now I rarely see more than a few rows in the upper levels have students in them. I don't see many people around my age in the stands either because there wasn't much to cheer for other than the yearly teaser win over teams much better than ours. Those are thousands of people that will never be season ticket holders. Not that all of them would be anyway, but some definitely would have been if the teams had been fun to watch. Games used to be really fun to watch in Halton. Sellouts were rare, but it was common to have about 75% of the arena full and it was loud and had a great atmosphere. Today, the atmosphere blows compared to what it used to be.
Not to mention they are playing Bama this week. It looks like we caught them at a good time.ASUPATCH wrote:IMO it is more of an indictment on Southern Miss. Yeah, BS, that did not turn out well!Black Saturday wrote:It may not last but Wyoming is up 7-0 over Oregon with 1 minute left in first quarter.
Craig Bohl is the real deal.
