That would be a good bet. We could still get to six wins but we will be the underdog in each of the remaining games.

I’m on board with a G5 playoff at this rate.
Still wouldn’t make it but we’d have a better chance.

At the end of the game we tried an onside kick…didn’t work….right around then they played some music….what song did they choose? “Another One Bites the Dust”….. I’m not sure who is in charge of game day production but maybe they should rethink that one.

We'll beat the brakes off of Arkansas State for our 5th and final win of the season... in front of 6000 fans.

This is all true and I think it is much wose than what we see on the field. If you really want to get depressed spend some time poking around the Knight-Newhouse College Athletics Database, our finances are in terrible shape.bcoach wrote: ↑Thu Nov 06, 2025 9:49 pmWhat he did was make an OL coach ( who I loved ) a head coach. We wouldn't even sniff it. We are AT BEST, a top 110 FBS program. I honestly think if there was a “Top 40 G6” poll, we’d be on the outside. Which is insanity given our brand, fanbase, attendance, and history.

Nationally televised game, check. Shit the bed, check.
I keep telling myself that it’s a rebuilding year, and I did not have any expectations going into this season. But I thought we’d be better than we are.
We have fallen a long way in the past several years. We used to be feared. Hope we get back there some day. I’ll keep cheering on the black and gold regardless.

Re: Stink discussion
Which validates the idea that DG has fumbled the bag. For the notoriety that our program has, DG has done nothing with it. When it was obvious college football was going in a completely new direction, he made an emotional hire with Clark to "maintain a culture" that had zero chance to survive due to the portal/NIL era upon us. This program got set back years while other programs adapted and found their niche in the new landscape. The college football landscape where App State thrived- where "App State" honeybadgers scared national programs, where the culture sculpted the player, no longer exists. The "Today I give my all for Appalachian" no longer means anything. Sorry to those who are hanging on to that idea, those nostalgic feelings, to make your Saturdays special like they used to be. Thats dead.

Re: Stink discussion
Thanks, as if I wasn't depressed enough. We have no business building the east side expansion. We have more than enough debt already, it's a burden. It's three times the sunbelt average and more than the median for all of FBS teams. Surprisingly though it is lower than most in state schools.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 07, 2025 3:54 amThis is all true and I think it is much wose than what we see on the field. We have more student athletes than any other sun belt team at 517 and even more than LSU at 501. More than all Sun belt in ex coaches salaries but less than Coastal for current staff with more sports. Our expenses dwarf those of other sun Belt teams except Ark St and Marshall.
Our donors give more than most and double or triple most sun belt schools. They all kill us in state funding though, we are less than a third of what Coastal,ULL and Marshall get. In fact as a percentage, our state support is down 17% over the last 7 years. We got more money from Raleigh in 2018 than we do today. Our competition guarantees are lower than most and our payout for visiting teams is higher than most. Our student fee usage dwarf everyone except Ga State. Looks like they are using student fees to make up some of the slack from Raleigh.
A look in state. Every school in the state and with available data gets more money from Raleigh than they did 7 years ago except us. ECU a good bit more and almost as much as NCS.
ECU conference and media rights money is also a lot higher than ours. Even UNCC gets more. Use of student fees is too high but a lot lower than UNCC and close the same as ECU. NCS and UNC- ch are a lot lower but get way more state money, have more donors, media revenue, ticket sales. I think they charge students for game tickets too.
Our ticket revenue is higher than ECU and dwarfs UNCC.
Hate to say it but without more money from the state we should look at cutting a couple of sports.
We are roughly breakeven if I am looking at the right data but we are surviving off of student fees and donor dollars.
We need more money from Raleigh, more media revenue/conference money and need to cut the debt before we build the east side expansion. Without a better on the field product donor money will dry up.

We were not prepared. Is that on the staff or the players? It was an embarrassing performance. That embarrassment was felt all the way to the top.

In the past it was always said it was on the coaches. Interested in hearing what it is now.

Agreed, we came out in the first half like deer with the headlights in our eyes. The team was not prepared and embarrassed itself, once again, on national TV. I realize this is the first year under a new staff, but last night’s performance was totally unacceptable!

I’ve long made my thoughts known on Gillin. Many people here mocked me, but that’s OK. I continue to believe his lack of vision, questionable priorities and unwillingness to expand the donor base in creative ways are a hindrance to ASU Athletics as a whole.

Re: Stink discussion
It always and ultimately comes back to coaches. Lack of prep, bad gameplanning, not motivating players, lack of effort, penalties and mistakes, not utilizing the talent or utilizing a lack of talent in a manner that positions players and teams for success. Anyone can win with superior talent. The test is development and getting performance and effort out of what you have. We don't do much well right now.
New staff and over half the team new coming off a bad year. I am willing to give this staff some grace but I need to see more than this. We are playing in a conference where we are the team everyone targets. We have to do better than this.

I feel like I'm drunk from lack of sleep, but still depressed from last night.
The drone show was way better than the first half.

Re: Stink discussion
It’s a good question: does blame fall on the players, staff, or both?WataugaMan wrote: ↑Fri Nov 07, 2025 9:13 amAgreed, we came out in the first half like deers with the headlights in our eyes. I’ll probably catch flak for this, but here goes…based on how clueless they consistently look in the first half of these games, I think we have a fair number of current players who have a falsely inflated sense of their own talent.
Players with this mindset have a tendency to be lazy in the film room, the weight room, and other places. You can’t coach hunger and hustle: either they have it or they don’t. And they may fake it well enough in practice, but routinely fall apart on game day. When they finally wake up and figure it out, the games are out of reach.
Someone change my mind.

Re: Stink discussion
9 games in on a total rebuild.
Some gave Satt grace in year one and year two, some didn’t. DL may have inherited an even worse situation.
I’m not sure the staff is this issue, they may be, but I know the level of talent and depth on this team isn’t good enough to compete even in a weak SBC.
I believe coaches traditionally needed three years to show who they are, even in this era you need at least two.
Not happy with the product on the field, but withhold thoughts on this staff until next year.

Re: Stink discussion
If your research is correct then the decision to Build the east side thing, is a BAD decision! Too much confusion in college athletics for us to make a $150 million mistake.
