Re: WTF
Don't see any problem at all with Jones' comments. Of course they had already benched him, so I guess you get your wish there.

Re: WTF
That was my thought as well. The worse part is he could have said nastier things and gotten away with it. There is too much money at stake for a coach to htake a principled stand. If OSU loses another game they are probably out of the NY 6 picture.

WTF
I can assure you that at any job I had at any age, if I criticized my employer like that, I would be lucky to keep that job. Now, imagine I went directly to the public/consumer with my feelings. I assure you I would've been terminated.

Doesn't matter what his age. He is in college and has to know better.Yosef10 wrote:God forbid a 20 year old kid not control his words one time when a microphone was shoved in his face after a brutal loss and completely terrible play calling.

Re: WTF
I think this is the monster we've created by promising cost of attendance. It isn't a large amount of money (yet), but it's a huge step towards a student athlete's reclassification to a professional athlete. I expect to see this type of insubordination become more frequent. They may become more brazen if unionization were to occur as well.

Just listen to Steve Brown's interview to hear more on the comparisons of his time and the benefits they received, to now.Gonzo wrote:I think this the monster we've created by promising cost of attendance. Re: RE: Re: WTF
This!! Also the 20 year old kid junk does not hold water at all. Mics are shoved in the faces of kids on the losing end every week. The vast vast vast majority handle it very differently than this dude. I agree 100% this monster is going to grow especially after the Mizzou payers showed the power that even an average FB team can wield when the stakes are millions of dollars.Gonzo wrote:I think this is the monster we've created by promising cost of attendance. Re: WTF
Supposedly this isn't a job, the school isn't his employer, and he (finally) can't be terminated. Elliot exerted pretty much the only power he has as a "student-athlete".HeffnerIV wrote:I can assure you that at any job I had at any age, if I criticized my employer like that, I would be lucky to keep that job. If the power of free-speech is what you're referring to, you're never free of its consequences.Yosef10 wrote:Supposedly this isn't a job, the school isn't his employer, and he (finally) can't be terminated. Re: WTF
Things change. Steve brown played long ago when college athletics wasn't big business as it is today. To top it off further he played here which non of us can deny was definitely not big time football. Unionization would not be a smart move and the Notthwestern kids were smart enough to know hat when it came down to the vote. These kids do deserve a lot more than what most are receiving, but salary and CBAs and such is a little too far.HeffnerIV wrote:Just listen to Steve Brown's interview to hear more on the comparisons of his time and the benefits they received, to now.Gonzo wrote:I think this the monster we've created by promising cost of attendance. Re: WTF
If you're implying it hurting his pro stock, I'd say maybe but probably not. He didn't say it at the right time or deliver it the right way but that doesn't make what he said wrong. And talent always wins out, especially in the NFL as we have seen.HeffnerIV wrote:If the power of free-speech is what you're referring to, you're never free of its consequences.Yosef10 wrote:Supposedly this isn't a job, the school isn't his employer, and he (finally) can't be terminated.
