NC Central is likely looking for a pay day. I doubt Coastal gives that to them. They could also be holding our feet to the fire for an extra 100 grand. "Want out to play Miami at home? It's gonna cost you."

Would a buyout of the Central game not have been a contract item much as the UMASS game had a buyout figure?

The buyout had to have been in the contract. They can't just determine a higher amount now. Schools would do that all the time.YesAppCan wrote:Would a buyout of the Central game not have been a contract item much as the UMASS game had a buyout figure?

I bet the contract read something like:bigdaddyg wrote:The buyout had to have been in the contract. They can't just determine a higher amount now. ...if contract is terminated 18 months or more before scheduled game, the the terminating party must pay the other school $XX,XXX. If the contract is terminated between 12 and 18 months before scheudled game, the terminating party must pay the other school $XXX,XXX. If broken less than 12 months before scheduled game, the terminating party must pay the other school $XXX,XXX and find an opponent in place of the termination of the previously scheduled game.

There are way too many peeps with no specific knowledge pretending they have specific knowledge of the contractual arrangements in play. That's just weird stuff.

No one's saying they KNOW anything. We're all just postulating.

I suppose that's like posting because you like to read your own thoughts. Still, I would hope no poster here has any real knowledge, and if they did they did they would never share it prior to an official announcement.APPdiesel wrote:No one's saying they KNOW anything. We're all just postulating.

I certainly have not seen a contract and don't know anything with regards to the negotiations .. Just trying to rationalize and understand why NCCU would be our hang-up if terms with UM are agreed to.CVAPP wrote:There are way too many peeps with no specific knowledge pretending they have specific knowledge of the contractual arrangements in play. If up to me, I'd say pay NCCU off and get on with it. Since there hasn't been an announcement yet, there must be something in the contract, not $ related, holding us up.

To reinforce what was said earlier from the AD: He mentioned to our tailgate that we are waiting on Miami to sign the paperwork...........fingers crossed. Soooo that means we are waiting on Miami...nothing we can do.

Which takes us back to the original comments in hoping this thing did not fall apart......Rekdiver wrote:To reinforce what was said earlier from the AD: He mentioned to our tailgate that we are waiting on Miami to sign the paperwork...........fingers crossed. Hopefully Miami isn't using us as a last resort and searching for other schools.

Most likely that would be television/ESPN.AppDawg wrote: Since there hasn't been an announcement yet, there must be something in the contract, not $ related, holding us up.
NCCU was not a TV-friendly game. Miami (Fla) on the road against an up & coming hungry program coming off its first ever bowl WIN, during a week (most likely) that has a bunch of dog games, suddenly changes that entire dynamic.

And just a personal point for this site... I dumped AppFan because of the snarky personal attacks people were making. You dont have to like what someone is saying but there is a way to disagree without some of the mess i'm starting to see here. Let's try to be a little more tolerant please? I caught myself doing it and I apologize to my fellow MMB'ers.

Would be on the ESPN family, but they wouldn't need to decide the specifics (i.e. exact network and kickoff time) until a couple weeks before the game, so I doubt that would be the hold up.bigapp wrote:Most likely that would be television/ESPN.AppDawg wrote: Since there hasn't been an announcement yet, there must be something in the contract, not $ related, holding us up.

Re: Miami (The U) in Boone next year (yes this is football)
I think it is a strong possibility that UM is delaying signing the contract in hopes of finding someone else. The question becomes, does our AD have the guts to called the UM AD and give him an ultimatum, if we don't receive the signed contract by a certain date, we are walking.

My understanding has been that the deal is done on the Miami end and that the delay in the announcement has been because we are working out our side with regards to finding an opponent for NCCU.

And put the track where?JTApps1 wrote:This should be a big boost to season ticket sales as well as I'm sure Gillin will push the idea that the only way to guarantee a seat for Miami is with season tickets.
We might want to get on the ball with the whole track removal too. We probably can't build seats, but removing the track would give more room for temporary seats in the North end zone.

Re: Miami (The U) in Boone next year (yes this is football)
If this is true we must have a very poorly constructed contract with NCCU. Contracts often contain remedies for non-performance. Surely we didn't enter a contract that obligated us to help the NCCU schedule a game if we chose to opt out. That would be ludicrous.appst89 wrote:My understanding has been that the deal is done on the Miami end and that the delay in the announcement has been because we are working out our side with regards to finding an opponent for NCCU.
