Re: Injury Report
Started to mount, I think some of these injuries wouldn't be listed if we were playing GS or Ark St. this week.

Re: Injury Report
We came into this season with 11 scholarship DEs. Two redshirting and two out for the year still leaves us alright there.JTApps1 wrote:If there ever was a good defense to go against with a depleted OL this is it. They experience our 2's can get this week will come in handy down the road. We'll be fine at RB as well.
DE is starting to get a bit thin though.

OL will be interesting this week, but could provide some much needed experience.JTApps1 wrote:If there ever was a good defense to go against with a depleted OL this is it. They experience our 2's can get this week will come in handy down the road. We'll be fine at RB as well.

DE is not really getting thin; Simms was 3rd on the depth chart and is the only DE out. Although he provided some quality depth; it will be good to get Harkness, Stout and Godwin some much needed experience. Would also be nice to have Malcolm Bennett; I wonder if he landed somewhere.
I know I shouldn't look forward to southern, but the outside run from Wyoming has me a bit worried about GS rushing attack in a couple of weeks.

Re: Injury Report
I don't see where some of you are getting the idea we have all this depth at DE. As of now we have Blair, Dada, Norwood, and Fuller as guys that have played meaningful minutes at DE. Even though the 2 Deep had Sims at 3rd string he was playing as 2nd string the past two games over Fuller.boonetown1 wrote:OL will be interesting this week, but could provide some much needed experience.JTApps1 wrote:If there ever was a good defense to go against with a depleted OL this is it. Behind the four guys mentioned above we have Singleton and Harkness who have both had few snaps. Behind them we have three freshmen (Favoroso, Morgan, Papenheim) who are being red shirted. We are one injury away from someone with little to no experience being in the rotation.
Stout could move back to DE if it got to that point.

Re: Injury Report
I'm with JTApps here. Scholarship DEs and DEs who are ready to help us win games are two different things. The fact that one of our second-string DEs is a 6-foot (former?) walk-on who's still listed as a LB on the online roster might tell us something about the readiness of most of those scholarship players.

Re: Injury Report
If there is a silver lining to this week's injury report, Sims could apply for a medical redshirt, according to Brant Wilkerson-New.

Re: Injury Report
Hope he's right, but it doesn't sound like he would qualify to me:AppGrad78 wrote:If there is a silver lining to this week's injury report, Sims could apply for a medical redshirt, according to Brant Wilkerson-New.
"Sims, a junior college transfer, could potentially gain another year of eligibility by applying for a medical hardship waiver as the injury occurred in the fourth game.
NCAA rules state that a player must have competed in less than 30 percent of the team’s contests for a waiver."
Sims is listed as having played in all four games. 4/12 is still 33.3%, correct?

Yeah, the math is puzzling. Doesn't add up to me.EastHallApp wrote:Hope he's right, but it doesn't sound like he would qualify to me:AppGrad78 wrote:If there is a silver lining to this week's injury report, Sims could apply for a medical redshirt, according to Brant Wilkerson-New.

Re: Injury Report
Satt indicated on Mountaineer Talk that it was possible for Sims. He may not be reading the rule correctly but he did make the statement.

So the argument is that we should be concerned that our fourth string redshirt junior DE isn't good enough depth? Nobody plays meaningful snaps until they do. How about the fact that we have a true freshman and walk-on redshirt freshman as the 2s at cornerback or that we are looking at starting a true freshman at tackle this week? We have legitimate areas of concern from a depth stand point and DE isn't one of them.

I figured those two positions were a given area of concern so I wanted to mention DE.boonetown1 wrote:Bingo. Re: Injury Report
Would a possible bowl game be included in the denominator? Even then 4 / 13 = 30.8
