We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Attendance is almost always posted for every sport (paid or free admission events) in the final stats for the game, and those can be found on the appstatesports.com website. That sounds snarky when I read it back to myself and I don't mean it that way, just letting you know.

I had tickets on the east side for several years and the sun this time of year can be brutal. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those fans tried to find shadier seats.

Doesn't change the fact there were plenty of empty spots throughout the stadium

I feel like it was well attended and the crowd stayed later than I expected considering the total lack of competition.

I was very vocal last week at the lack of ticket sales and promos. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday. I agree had everyone in the grass filed into the East stands, they would have been full and possibly then some. Nonetheless, it was good to see the hill as full as it was. Its been a very long time since it was half that full.

Great job! Let's keep it up and string some strong attendance games together where the fans actually show up.

There are a couple attendance/tv related threads, so not sure where this comment was made, but I also agree with entertaining the Idea of flipping the Block A towards the East side. A little unconventional, but would market ourselves on TV in a very positive light given how packed the west atands are. Further, with the student section spanning the entire sideline, it gives a cameron indoor feel to college football.

I don't see how you can responsibly say that it looked like there were a few thousand fewer than the announced 24k. It may or may not have been 24 k there but "a few thousand less" makes it sound like 18 or 19 and there was definitely more than that.

I can say, from what I was reading and hearing before the game, it was several thousand more than what I expected.

As we were lucky enough to find parking on Rivers Street we ran into an older gentleman and chatted for about 5 minutes. He proclaimed to have been a former (substantial) Yosef donor, season ticket holder, and long time supporter who greatly reduced his support after Jerry was released and we left the SoCon. He was adamant about the SoCon's superiority over the Sunbelt. This is the first time I've ever met one in person. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I won't disparage and call him a cranky old stick in the mud, but I really would've liked the chance to ask him "do you support the SoCon, or do you support Appalachian State?"

I never really bought the "everyone's still sore about Jerry and the move" argument because I thought love for App State was stronger than that, but I saw it in the flesh. It is real, and people are still mad.

I work in the tourism business up here in the mountains and I hear the "Firing Jerry Moore was the worst thing App ever did" opinion a good bit, even still. It's a fog that still lingers.

Don't even get me started on this one. it was definitely Jerrys time to go, if how he was shown the door upsets some people I can understand and respect that. But it doesn't change the fact his time was up. As for the SoCon vs. Sunbelt debate that's not even up for discussion. If these people are part of the problem with attendance then so be it, not much that can be done with those people

honestly, I think now, the firing of Moore is just an excuse people are using, to not have to admit the real reason they no longer support the program, and that is, they do not want to see App grow from a small regional school to national recognized school. They were very happy playing the SoCon, in front of 10-12 thousand fans a game. They don't want growth in the University, but especially the football program, they wish for the old days of a small time program in a small, quiet community. Fortunately, those days are over, if you cant get on board with the growth of the University, you can always travel across the mountain on a Saturday afternoon to Western Carolina.

Or they could miss the playoffs? The long time rivalry we had with many SoCon schools? The closeness of away games? To solely say that people that miss those things don't want to see the university grow is incorrect. JMU as well as Liberty, just two examples have grown big time as a university all while being in the fcs level. You are correct we've moved on, but to dismiss people's feelings about things they enjoyed over the years and suggesting anyone suffers through watching Western Carolina is not fair.

Just give it time. Those people that didn't want change will learn to move on and accept where we are now, which I agree with you is a much much much better place.

Obviously it's still a sore spot for a lot of fans. Upside: there's a lot of passion involved. Downside: many fans seem to still hold a (passionate) grudge. I get it, when you move up not everyone will support it. When that move comes with the unceremonious dismissal of a beloved coach it'll take some people time to get over it. Good news, the guy who pulled his yosef club donation still comes to the games so maybe he's coming around.

10-12 thousand? I could have sworn I attended a couple SoCon games with close to 30K in attendance.

We don't see many home games on Labor Day weekend. The crowd looked better than I expected and a large reason for that was student attendance.

Jerry Moore's departure is a certainly a reason for the dip in attendance.

4-8 in 2013 is a much bigger reason. 1-5 in the first half of 2014 is also a reason.

6-0 in the 2nd half of 2014 is the main reason why we got a solid 24k at The Rock on Saturday.

I don't think the conference/division move has had much of an impact, overall. We might underestimate the draw of the Western rivalry a little.

But, we still have Georgia Southern.

We'll gradually build new rivalries as we continue to play the Sun Belt teams. Our three biggest home games were Elon 2010, Wofford 2008, and Montana 2012.

Wofford and Montana were basically grudge-matches those years...and everybody just wanted to beat Elon in that era. But, those three games were also aided by homecoming, ESPN2/Halloween, and home opener attendance.
