MSOC travels to Wofford for Sunday friendly match

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Aug 15, 2015 3:02 pm

MSOC travels to Wofford for a friendly match Sunday at 5 PM. Our men return a solid cast of defenders and mids, but the test will be whether forwards step forward to pick up the slack left by Stan Broaden's graduation. It appears, once again, that we have no "feared" striker. We'll depend on set pieces and the midfield play of senior Alex Herbst of Apex, N.C. (Apex) who led the team in assists last season. Herbst has a knack for putting the ball in open space for our forwards and attacking mids.

ASU men take a 3 - 1 road win over the former SoCon opponent ankle-biter side.

Junior forward Stephen Chapman of Greensboro (NC) Northwest Guilford tallied two goals on the afternoon and freshman mid-fielder Ian Bennett of Wilmington (NC) New Hanover got the other goal on a 20 yard strike in traffic. Bennett along with fellow mid, Donovan Japp, a junior from Northwest Guilford, picked up the assists on Chapman's two goals.
