Re: Beer in KBS
I was at Troy and it was great. Very cheap too, at least for a sporting event. $5 for a 16 oz can, with some pretty good choices, not just bud light. If people want to drink at the stadium they are going to. Do you not see mini bottles all around? I just wonder about liability to the school if someone has an accident and they were served too much. At Troy they didn't open the cans for you, so if you wanted to throw the can you could. Most places open the cans or bottles and I've seen them take the lids so you won't have a projectile in your hands.

I wasn't relating anything to pro sports. You brought that up. My only opinion was relating to KBS.
I just think the increased amount of drinking before heading down the mountain is not a great idea. Not a big deal just answering the original question.

Re: Beer in KBS
I would welcome it. I don't think it would be a huge revenue generator though. Most students aren't 21 and those that are drink cheap beer. The club folks already have this option so that leaves a smaller percentage of patrons. I've never been a huge tailgater and I don't drink my bourbon with sodas, so the pounding of beers and mini bottles aren't an option. I would love to enjoy a couple of nice beers WHILE watching a game.
That being said, I know of a well-connected, influential group that would have a poop hemmorage if this were to come to pass. Just look up the debate on goblueridge about Boone getting liquor by the drink a few years back. Incidentally, I have yet to see dead babies on the streets of Boone because of the passing of that.

Re: Beer in KBS
I hope you guys get it passed, so it will open the door for other schools in NC adding it too.
Re: Beer in KBS
Based on what I've seen reported from other schools, it is a huge money generator. Think about it - maybe 6-7k of the 25k we average are students...then maybe another 1k in the club seats, if that...take out the underage kids that come with family, and those that don't partake, and you've still probably got 10k, at minimum, people that would buy beer.Boonegoon wrote:I would welcome it. Let's say they each buy one at $5 - 10k x 5 a game is an extra $50k a game - over 6 home games, that's an extra $300k per year. I would say that's a conservative estimate too, as there are likely more than 10k potential customers, and most will buy more than 1.
Doubt it happens, though...considering how long it took to get Liquor by the drink in Boone!

that is assuming there will not be a decrease in the sale of pepsi and water.

You know, personally, I never really thought about not attending something because beer was served... usually, I might think of attending something more if beer was there. However, the last Panthers game I attended, what looked like a 30something chick ran down the isle near us hammered... and projectile vomiting on everyone and everything within range. The only thing worse was the Van Halen concert in G-boro and the guy the puked down the back of our seats... it was worse than the puke fest in the "Stand by Me" movie...Gonzo wrote:Honest question:bcoach wrote:Not in favor of it at all. Now as far as raising money I have an even better idea. Just donate $8 a game to the Josef club, or $16, or $24
Bet this is not going to go over well
Do you avoid professional sporting events for that reason? Do you think our fans are more irresponsible than, say, Panthers fans?
if someone wants to get hammered, it doesn't matter if we sell beer or not. They will find a way to sneak it in or other... Personally, I really don't know how I feel about beer in Kid Brewer... Growing up in Boone and being an ASU graduate I have my share of memories and opinions... I am actually kindof indifferent I guess. As long as we continue to brew good football, I will find a way to attend...

Re: Beer in KBS
Fair question Gonzo and I would have to say that I do avoid NFL games for that very reason. To many power drinkers that either want to fight or curse and you can't reason with them or you get stuck siting next to two chuckle heads that are constantly up either getting another beer or going to the bathroom. Not as big of a problem at baseball or hockey games. I would attribute that to less tailgating at those events.Gonzo wrote:Honest question:bcoach wrote:Not in favor of it at all. Re: Beer in KBS
Pricing is the big one, if cutting down on mini bottles is the concern. They can't charge more than the combined cost of a mini and a pepsi, which comes with the cup and ice.

I didn't mean to imply that Bcoach or anyone would seek out the event purely for the booze (which would be really stupid since such events are the most expensive way to buy alcohol). I was just pointing out that if it doesn't seem to bother many people at pro games, why would it bother people here. What's the distinction?dontplay90 wrote:You know, personally, I never really thought about not attending something because beer was served... usually, I might think of attending something more if beer was there. Of course many people do have problems with drunks a pro games and choose to stay home instead and I would never judge them for doing so. But it's worth mentioning that some of the drunkest people I have ever seen have been in a "dry" Kidd Brewer. I saw a guy sneak a pony keg into the stadium on the back of his wheel chair disguised as an oxygen tank once. One of my buddies used to sneak a bottle of Andre Champagne into the student section almost every game. I've seen vomiting, fighting -- you name it. In fact, 2014 was the first time since I can remember in which some drunk didn't run onto the field during a game and get tackled by security.
I may or may not typically enter the Rock armed with a few Jack Daniels air plane bottles. Those might stay in the liquor store if I could sip on a nice Stout or IPA brewed less than a mile away with 100% North Carolina ingredients.

Re: Beer in KBS
I think that opinions on drunks change as we get older and move into different points in our lives. Now that I have children I don't tolerate the obnoxious drunks with the sailor mouths whether my children are with me or not. I went to a rock festival earlier this year and I wound up standing next to the only drunk that was looking for a fight. He came pretty close to getting his head knocked in but my kids and their friends were at the venue (but not with me) so I just walked away rather than having to explain an altercation. But it did sour my mood on an otherwise great day.Gonzo wrote:I didn't mean to imply that Bcoach or anyone would seek out the event purely for the booze (which would be really stupid since such events are the most expensive way to buy alcohol). Re: Beer in KBS
I realize people sneak in alcohol. But having it be against the rules seems to improve the culture. People at least have to try and hide it. And part of the way that many people they hide it is by trying not to act as drunk as they really are. Also, not allowing alcohol makes it much easier for security to toss out an obnoxious drunk person. All they have to do is keep an eye out for when that person pulls a mini-bottle, and then boom, they're gone.
Plus, I think that the masses of sober people help set standards of appropriate etiquette. Only the most heavily intoxicated people feel comfortable going way outside the social norms that are set by the sober fans, and normally their friends will make some efforts to keep them in check. When you've got 40% of the stadium a little buzzed, and 20% drunk, the social norms shift dramatically. At least that's been my experience.
