I was going to say trey too; he has tie ins with local high schools and has served at WR coach/recruiting coordinator and high school head coach.

Re: What is going on?
Stepp wouldn't have left App State for a few extra bucks. Chad Morris was Stepp's mentor when he was a GA at Clemson. When Morris got the SMU job it was a matter of time.
I, for one, think the world of Coach Stepp. His 3 seasons at App State was a resounding net positive for our program. We are a better and strong football program for having him with us.
We have to get a killer replacement for Stepp. Coach Foster is a great recruiter and he and Stepp worked well together.
I think Satt knows the kind of guy we need.

Elder's a great guy but I'd love another P5 GA like Stepp. Now that App State is hot I'm sure the resume's on Beasley's desk will be piled high.EastHallApp wrote:SMU is ideed a dumpster fire, but they're going to be paying Morris $2 million a year. Compare that to whatever we're paying Satt now and Stepp should being increasing his paycheck by approximately... a lot. Sorry to lose him, but I wish him luck.
As for his replacement... How about Trey Elder?

Seriously you don't have better to do in your life than stalk a teenager's Twitter feed? Get some help dude.Gonzo wrote:I wish him well. He's a great person and coach.
This however is very concerning:

Calm down, that's how most get recruiting updates now. I wouldn't think he would leave and loose a year of elegability anyways.

Not to nitpick, because overall I agree with your thoughts, but Stepp will probably double his salary at least with this move, and that's assuming his listed salary is out of date due to the FBS pay bumps. It's not going to be "a few extra bucks." That kind of raise would be a big incentive for most people.APPARJ wrote:Stepp wouldn't have left App State for a few extra bucks. I fully understand the nature of society and social media today. But this went beyond that. Trying to psychoanalyze a college freshman based on a completely innocuous tweet is a sign of something not good in my book.boonetown1 wrote:rbarthle17 wrote:Seriously you don't have better to do in your life than stalk a teenager's Twitter feed? Right or wrong, probably not the best idea to hijack a thread in which everyone else is actually having a reasonable discussion about App football.

Our football players have thousands of twitter followers, most of whom are App fans.rbarthle17 wrote:Seriously you don't have better to do in your life than stalk a teenager's Twitter feed? Get some help dude.Gonzo wrote:I wish him well. He's a great person and coach.

If college football players bolted everytime an assistant got poached then a lot of teams would be in a helluva mess.

Re: What is going on?
I was afraid these things would happen, but was hoping we could at least get through next year before our staff was poached. Really hate to see anything disrupt the continuity that we developed over the season. Hopefully we will find the right fit, not only for the position but for the recruitment aspect as well.
Another coach I really feel is a huge part of our success and passion is Coach Mike, our new strength and conditioning coach. I think what we were able to do at Ark. State and ULL speaks volumes for his program. His ability to inspire the players is second to none.
I hope we can find the $$ to give all the staff a raise and keep them in Boone.

Re: What is going on?
This is the nature of college football and there is nothing wrong with it. Stepp was one of our lowest paid assistants (WR Coach always has been one of the lowest just look at our turnover there), and he got an opportunity to not only make more money but reunite with his mentor. He did great things here and I'm sure Satt will find a good replacement. I have a feeling Stepp will move up the ranks rather quickly.
Re: What is going on?
With the kind of money SMU has, it's possible Stepp will be making more than Satterfield next year...hard to blame the guy. I know the AAC isn't considered Big 5 anymore, but I would say it and Mtn West are a step above the other 3 "Group of 5" leagues.EastHallApp wrote:Not to nitpick, because overall I agree with your thoughts, but Stepp will probably double his salary at least with this move, and that's assuming his listed salary is out of date due to the FBS pay bumps. Re: What is going on?
Yes. Doubling your salary is a big incentive. But I also believe Stepp has been planning on Morris hiring him for a while. I can see the logic of not wanting to leave a place he loves for more money when he knows his big money opportunity will come in time.EastHallApp wrote:Not to nitpick, because overall I agree with your thoughts, but Stepp will probably double his salary at least with this move, and that's assuming his listed salary is out of date due to the FBS pay bumps. It really doesn't matter. I could be completely wrong. That said, I am extremely happy for Stepp. He made a positive impact to this program and we'd be fortunate to hire someone that comes close to his caliber.
Re: What is going on?
Having assistants hired away by perceived "bigger" programs is good for a school like ours as it makes it easier to convince a replacement to come here. Plus - One of the "Hottest Assistants in the Country" wanted one of our guys to build his staff with.
Now - I don't want mass exoduses every year - but it's something we should be used to anyway. Searels, Elliott, Satt, Galloway, Travis Jones, John Wiley, Ruffin, Jeff Dillman, Hixson, etc., etc. I trust Scott to make a solid hire for the next guy.
