Pitt vs. FIU
Watching Pitt and FIU. There might be 5k in attendance. Is Miami just a terrible college sports town? The U doesn't draw well for their games either.

Miami is a city that loves winners and its people love to be seen. Unless FIU are in the top 10 attendance will suffer.

With regard to another thread on the MMB, I noticed that the gold end zones at FIU look very dark. They appear to have the same turf issues as KBS.

Re: Pitt vs. FIU
It's widely known as a bad sports town overall. To the extent that people follow sports, it's pro sports, and then only when they're winning big.
Da U draws ok when they're winning national championships, but that's about it. Probably the least supportive fanbase of any modern elite program.
As for FIU... Forget about it.

In all fairness you are only showing 1/2 of the seats. To get a truer picture you would need to double the number in the stands.Gonzo wrote:The "crowd" at kickoff:

Watching highlights of WVU and Maryland, the gold and white portions of the turf looked dingy like ours.appst89 wrote:With regard to another thread on the MMB, I noticed that the gold end zones at FIU look very dark. They appear to have the same turf issues as KBS.

I live here in SF, if your not winning at the National level, they don't care, and will not attend the games, Miami/Fl Lauderdale area might be the worst sports area in the country. Got to be honest, anytime I see that many empty seats at a conference USA school, it makes me really happy, I cant imagine any recruit at that game is leaving with a positive, warm fuzzy feeling about playing football for FIU.

But just look at that pretty CUSA logo. That's REAL big time college football!Gonzo wrote:The "crowd" at kickoff:

I would agree except we almost landed in that conference and may yet at some point.moehler wrote:I live here in SF, if your not winning at the National level, they don't care, and will not attend the games, Miami/Fl Lauderdale area might be the worst sports area in the country. Re: Pitt vs. FIU
I would love to have a game in South Florida every year. Could do wonders for our recruiting. If the home team and their fans make a poor impression, so much the better.NewApp wrote:I would agree except we almost landed in that conference and may yet at some point.moehler wrote:I live here in SF, if your not winning at the National level, they don't care, and will not attend the games, Miami/Fl Lauderdale area might be the worst sports area in the country. Take a close look at the photo of FIU's stadium. See the tends on the concourse on the far side? That is their press box.
Not joking.

Re: Pitt vs. FIU
CUSA picked teams based on media markets instead of support for the teams in the media market or else where. There is some pro's to that strategy, but the con's are that if there are several other options to the CUSA team, the CUSA team will just get drown out, which looks to be the case. With this few of fans at the game how many do they think will subscribe/watch their network.

Re: Pitt vs. FIU
Born in South Florida and raised in Central Florida and yes Miami is a HORRIBLE sports town. I am a former Dolphins season ticket holder and still a die hard fin fan. Marlins attendance outside of word series years is always horrible as is the Heat without Shaq, Lebron and company being there. Dolphins game are usually packed but many time with Jet and Patriot fans. There are many of things at play here. There is a huge Latin American population(Miami Dade county is 63% latin/hispanic) that view soccer as the end all be all sport. Thats two third of the local population that view soccer in higher regard than both football and basketball. The majority of the Caucasian population left are transplants from NY, NJ, MASS so they are Knick, Jet, Patriot, Yankee, Celtic fans. The African American population in South Florida tends to be of very low income and can't afford Division 1 or pro sports prices. So for those reasons it tends to be a horrible sports town. That being said, Go Fins
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!
