Liberty University Installs Unoccupied POW/MIA Stadium Seat

Unread post by HkyMtneer » Thu Sep 11, 2014 9:37 am

Ran across this yesterday and thought it was pretty cool. Liberty University, in conjunction with the local Rolling Thunder chapter in Central VA, recently installed a permanently unoccupied stadium seat inside Williams Stadium. It appears to be located along the top of the concourse, underneath the overhang of Williams Stadiums upper deck, and in a prime viewing spot for those entering the facility. I did a quick Google search and noticed that Rolling Thunder chapters have been responsible for helping with these memorials at a number of stadiums, of different types, around the country.

I would love to see something like this at The Rock. I think a small pad, angled towards the field, at the top of the walkway of the West stands, just prior to walking under the stands, would be perfect. Lots of eyes would catch it there. Other options might be along the top of the walkway around the bank, dead center on a concrete pad, or possibly out in the ticket plaza, angled towards the field, under the bank of flags. Thoughts?

This is a class move all the way. App State needs to do this.

Couldn't agree more. Even if a school couldn't get the assistance of a local Rolling Thunder chapter, the cost couldn't be that exorbitant. If nothing else, I'm sure many local veterans groups would love to chip in.

Totally agree, and I may be the only one, but would love to see the parachute drops reinstated which we had a few years ago (during Cobb's first year or two).
