I do agree with your point --- however Alabama has won 3 of the last 5 National Championships ---Appersrule wrote:This is no statement about future success but if everything were up to the flawed recruiting rankings than Alabama would win the national title every year. Yet they have only won the SEC 2 of the past 8. I firmly believe App is getting a better group of recruits than in years past, is that enough to overcome the step up in competition, we will see. 5 star recruits fizzle all the time. And 1 stars look like 5 stars sometimes to.

Somebody needs to check the link that shows the number of
"Sub-Par" FCS quality players that we have placed in the NFL as opposed to the number that most of the Lower tier (outside the top 30) FBS schools have placed in the league over the years.
But hey Dexter was just 1-AA so was Deno, not good enough for us Big Time FBS folk.

Re: Here we go!
So you are comparing App's NFL players to OTHER FBS programs to prove that App hasn't improved ITS overall level of recruit since announcing the move to FBS, good try at changing the debate to support your position.
If you'd like to discuss App's level of player compared to other programs that is a completely different subject.

I think it would be more prudent to compare GO5 draft picks to FCS draft picks. Of course there really is no comparison....

Re: Here we go!
Just a thought but considering that we're just on our 2nd FBS class we might want to wait until they have a bit more experience than 1 year (Soph upcoming) or Scout team (RS Fr upcoming) before we decide exactly how good or bad our recruits are. I've heard that some players actually improve during their time in college.

Re: Here we go!
Moose that is a fair point.
However to date our last two classes have seen a larger percentage of players that were more highly recruited by what the general public views as better programs.
I can not predict the future to say those players will be better as App has had some very good players at the FCS level, but I can say that overall these recruiting classes on paper have been getting better.

Re: Here we go!
Saint: While my post was general and while it is true that we won't know exactly what caliber of player these turn out to be for a little while longer my post was really aimed in another direction. No one can say how many of these "FBS" recruits we will place in the NFL vs us at the FCS level until the FBS players actually make it to draft time. And you are right in saying that, on paper, many of the offer sheets for these last two classes have been better.Saint3333 wrote:Moose that is a fair point.

I've kept out of most discussions lately but this is one topic I have a bit more info about than the norm. I spend hours a day searching for information, following these players, talking to the staff, talking to people at the recruiting sites, watching what they say when a new offer comes in, trying to figure who is realistic and who's not, etc, etc. I'm sorry Old Wideout but to say " I'm not sure we have one kid on the team that we wouldn't have really had a chance at anyway…….." regardless of the move is simply not true. I don't have exact numbers nor do I have the time to look up every interview from every player in the last two classes but based on little notes I put on my personal lists more than half of each of these classes mentioned in articles from the sites, told the staff, or said on twitter that the fact that App was moving or was FBS played into their decision. You say there is no real way to know that? How about their own words? If the players own words don't count for you then nothing else will. I chose to believe the actual words they say and take them at face value. I guess I'm funny that way. But if you need more proof you can go back more than 10 years at each recruiting site and see who our commits were and who their additional offers were. It isn't an exact measure but these past two classes have had more players with multiple FBS and BCS offers than in the past. That is a provable fact in black and white. How they turn out is still to be determined.

Re: Here we go!
As an example of a "lower tier" outside of the top 30 team I took ECU, which currently has 65 draft picks to Apps 18. Also looked at Ark. State who has 42,and Troy with 32. Now what were you saying old wideout? You're talking nonsense, man. If you don't know what you're talking about then why speak?Old Wideout wrote:Somebody needs to check the link that shows the number of

The 05-06-07 teams would handle anything that we will put on the filed for the next several years…… All with subpar FCS players.

05 was our second year with the spread and we caught teams off guard. Teams defend the spread much better now almost a decade later. So I am not so sure that would be the case.

You folks have it all wrong. I was and remain in favor of the move.
You cherry pick a few schools to make your point, when I'm talking averages of those schools.
Check out the draft picks over the last few years for each school.

Re: Here we go!
No one is cherry picking any more so than you are. App has had plenty of draft picks. No doubt we will have more. FBS schools miss out on draft picks every year and it has been to our benefit over the past 20 seasons. But to say that our overall talent level will not continue to rise over the next few seasons is short-sighted (if this staff continues to recruit the way they have been). How about we lock this thread now and revisit it in 6 years. It we have no picks, then you win. If we have more then you have to admit that you were wrong.Old Wideout wrote:You folks have it all wrong. I was and remain in favor of the move.
