Fox Signs Three Players for 2014-15

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men’s basketball head coach Jim Fox announced the addition of three players to his squad for the 2014-15 season. All three signees will join the Mountaineers for Fox’s inaugural season after enjoying outstanding prep careers. The group consists of guard Jake Babic (Oakville, Ontario/The Kiski School) and forwards Griffin Kinney (Delaware, Ohio/Fork Union Military Academy) and Milos Kostic (Hammond, Ind./IMG Academy).

“I am excited to add these players to our roster,” said Fox. “They represent a solid foundation for which to build on both on the court and in the classroom. They provide toughness, versatility and skill to our roster. They have been tested at some of the best high schools and prep schools in the country and I am excited to get them here and have them begin working on contributing to the rebuilding of App State basketball."

Jake Babic

The Kiski School

Babic comes to Appalachian after an outstanding prep career that saw him . During the 2013-14 season, Babic attended The Kiski School in Saltsburg, Pa. where he averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game to earn MVP honors for the Cougars. He played high school ball at St. Ignatius of Loyola in Oakville, Ontario and earned MVP honors as a junior and senior as well as Athlete of the Year accolades. Babic averaged 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds per game in his high school career. He also played AAU ball for the Northern Kings where he averaged 17 points, six assists and five rebounds. A multi-sport athlete, Babic also lettered in volleyball, soccer and badminton in high school and was named as MVP of the volleyball team as a senior.

Griffin Kinney

Delaware, Ohio
Fork Union Military Academy

Kinney will join the Mountaineers following one year at Fork Union Military Academy where he averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game. He provides Appalachian with an additional inside presence who can also step out and connect from long range. An athletic forward, Kinney also played lacrosse in high school, helping lead Hayes (Ohio) High School to a OHSLA Club Division state title as a senior while scoring seven goals in the state championship match en route to offensive MVP honors.

Milos Kostic
6-8 • 225 • Forward
Hammond, Ind.
IMG Academy

Kostic spent one season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. following a highly successful high-school career at Bishop Noll (Ind.). In his one year at IMG, the Serbian-born Kostic averaged 16 points and seven rebounds while helping lead his squad to a 24-2 mark during the regular season and a spot in the prestigious, eight-team National Prep Championships. He also provides the Mountaineers with a solid post presence who can score from anywhere on the floor.

Was going to put this at the bottom of the post but I got busy and forgot.

I wanted to give congrats to the entire staff for all the hard work and extreme effort in signing these solid players. With a very late start, having to assemble a staff, attend all the pressers and alumni events, evaluating the current team and looking for areas of need, and then having to put in days of work on the recruiting trail trying to find unsigned players who could help us, they have done a terrific job. Congrats to the Coaches and all involved on a great start to getting App Basketball on it's way back.
