Re: Capel Has NOT Been Fired
1.) Capel has not been fired. He was hired for four years; and will be paid for four years.
2.) Several folk (maybe 3 to 5 folks) have mentioned Pearl and Greenberg; not masses of people as suggested by I. G. Greer. He knows better.
Pearl isn't in the running; and thank the Lord for that. Zero chance! Greenberg might be a good match to teach kids, recruit kids and sell tickets--but he'd be a short-term fix. The local Jewish community would embrace G'berg and his family; as would the faculty. He's lived comfortably in Blacksburg; so Boone & Blowing Rock wouldn't be that much of a stretch. 25% chance.
3.) Charlie hees and haws a little too much in his pressers. I wish he'd read a prepared statement--and stick closely to it--but that's not our Charlie. He did get the high points pretty well--in retrospect. So far, I'm OK with this.
* Hire someone who's had experience being a successful college head coach.
* Hire someone who can embrace and excite the App nation--students and alumni.
* Hire someone who has high expectations for student-athletes and who can teach the game.
* A committee of six to eight will be appointed to make a recommendation to Ken Peacock while he
is still Chancellor.
* Regarding compensation package; we'll pay market rate for the Sunbelt. That's a significant
improvement!
* When asked if it had to be a Div. I head coach; he very carefully made a statement about not
getting boxed in. He said the committee would look initially toward experienced head
coaches, regardless of level, but also look at candidates who are clearly fast rising and on the up
elevator.
* We'll let the next few weeks tell us where we're really going to head. He repeated, we won't allow
ourselves to be boxed in.
* I don't have a list, per se, but I'll have a good one in 24-36 hours.
When you examine the words carefully, I don't think anyone except *the extremely ridiculous* have specifically been excluded at this moment. It's a wide open race. Charlie knows a lot rides on this selection.

Re: Capel Has Been Fired
All the assistants were notified of their releases today as well.
Cobb was in Asheville for Jerry Moore's SoCon HOF induction this morning, drove back to Boone and dropped the axe he did as soon as he got back.

Interesting that CC said they would revisit the Graham situation.

I listened to it on GoAppState.com. My take is that Charlie thinks most anyone we hire will want the opportunity to try to convince @im_dat_kid_dtae to wear App's Black & Gold.

It's exactly what I said. I just had to spell it out for you.Kgfish wrote:You didn't even come close to saying that. If you had I would not have responded the way I did.Rekdiver wrote:As Ii said.....if this doesn't work out then CCs contract will not be renewed in 3 years......

And it may have been rare but I agree with everything 66id.

Re: Capel Has Been Fired
Not sure if he's been mentioned, but what about Duggar Baucom from VMI? Career record isn't awesome, but it's not bad for VMI, and he's had some good years there. Plus at least we'd be fun to watch.
Not sure if he's won enough to get the job, but thought I'd see what people thought.

Flomo is seeking release officially.

Re: Capel Has Been Fired
Who were their other offers from and do those teams have room to bring them in this coming year?firemoose wrote:This was posted by a National recruiting analyst for Future150.com
Garrett Tucker @GTuckerF150
2014 Sipsey Valley (AL) PF Rasheed Worrell will seek his release from Appalachian State after the firing of their coach
We've heard the rumors that Flomo would ask for his release if Capel was not renewed but it looked like Worrell was more solid. We'll just have to see how this all plays out.
EDIT: To be complete I forgot to add that Worrell has not posted anything, not even re-tweeting these posts (there have been a couple more). Future150 is one of the top Basketball Recruiting sites but until we here directly from Worrell and Flomo anything is speculation.

Re: Capel Has Been Fired
Worrell had offers from home state schools such as Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Also had offers from Wofford and Presbyterian
Flomo had offers from Buffalo, ECU, Chattanooga and Charleston Southern among others.
Not sure what those schools situations are with their scholarships.
