Re: UNC-CH FB Recruiting Violatons?
I didn't even click on it, but I'll find it...
https://myfox8.com/sports/football/coll ... belichick/
"Fired without cause
If Belichick were to be terminated without cause, UNC would then owe him the remainder of his salary through Dec. 31, 2027.
The terms of Belichick’s five-year deal, worth $10 million each year, only guarantee the money through the first three years of the contract, meaning that Carolina would most likely be on the hook for a $30 million buyout if they were to fire Belichick before 2028.
Belichick would also be owed any performance bonus money that he had earned until the point of his firing. However, those bonuses are based on how high UNC finishes in the Top 25 of the College Football Playoff poll, an achievement that is unlikely to have happened in the event that he is fired without cause."

I was thinking %15 million but was figuring 1.5 years of contract buyout.

I hated UNC more than anyone on here.... however..... My son applied to UNC as a joke to get me going (his full intention was to go to NC state). Unfortunately, not only did they accept him, they gave him a BIG scholarship. So after some soul-searching.... I now own a UNC dad tshirt.

I was one of three and scholarship money played a huge part of that (and international study options). That is one reason I always give more to the academic side than athletic side of things for App State Fdn. Having a bigger endowment would help with scholarship money that can be used to attract more high quality students.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 10:16 amI hated UNC more than anyone on here.... however..... Hopefully App did not have his major so the pain you feel can be lessened. And I wear my Davidson/UNCG and Meredith/VCU Dad shirts with as much pride as I do my App State Dad shirt.

I only wear that when made to do so (and granted I did grow up a UNC fan), but I usually do have an App hat on with it and I need to find a UNC dad tank or cut off the sleeves so my Yosef tat shows too. Wife and daughter probably wouldn't approve though.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 10:16 amI hated UNC more than anyone on here.... however..... According to the UNC board they expect the Lombardi situation to be resolved in 30 days and it is expected he will be fired, which I think 99% of people at UNC want.

Will see more often than not as the circus progresses
UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts sums up athletics spending. "What we used to be able to do was to have football and basketball pay for the other 26 sports that we're proud to field and in which we have a very strong tradition. The transfers from the central budget are for the other 26 sports because football and basketball can't pay for all the other sports anymore."

When my daughter got accepted to State, I communicated to her that I separate academics from athletics. Congratulations and good luck on your academic achievements. My youngest daughter chose correctly and spent 5 years in Boone.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 6:37 amcongrat...*barf*...ulationsASUTodd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 10:16 amI hated UNC more than anyone on here.... however..... Re: UNC-CH FB Recruiting Violatons?
He waited over a week to tell me about his acceptance and scholarship.... I had told him I would pay for him to go anywhere to college but UNC and GASouth. I ended up realizing that he was super proud of the scholarship and in honor of his hardwork.... i caved to a UNC dad shirt. He wanted to do Engineering and thats why he was going to State. Since the UNC thing came around he's changed to Physics and we found out that since he's at UNC, if State has a class he wants to take he can apply to take it through UNC and go take it.... can't beat that!NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 6:37 amcongrat...*barf*...ulationsASUTodd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 10:16 amI hated UNC more than anyone on here.... however..... I would pay for and let my daughters go to UNC if that's where they wanted to go and they carried a major that they were seeking, but I would never don the baby blue. I think it would make my skin burn.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:34 amHe waited over a week to tell me about his acceptance and scholarship.... My oldest starts applying next month to colleges, but she only wants to apply to App. Her mom, also and App grad, is making her apply to other places. I have not pushed her in any direction, but she has great memories of going to football and basketball games, also going hiking and walking around King Street. Looking forward to having more excuses to go up to Boone.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 7:44 amWhen my daughter got accepted to State, I communicated to her that I separate academics from athletics. Re: UNC-CH FB Recruiting Violatons?
I know a few of the professors at UNC-CH in the Physics and Astronomy Department from the NC Section of AAPT (Physics Teachers) meetings. The director of undergrad labs is the past-president through next spring and his 4 year cycle of VP, Pres-Elect, Pres, Past Pres will be complete. He hosted a meeting of the NC section last year. I was impressed with what they have to offer on the campus. Going to a university that has a lot of graduate research can be a positive and a negative in my view. It might be possible that an undergrad gets hooked into some cutting edge research or it might be the grad students get all the attention and the undergrads become afterthoughts. Both NCSU and UNC-CH have teaching professors and "research" professors and that should help keep the focus on undergrad students enough.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:34 amHe waited over a week to tell me about his acceptance and scholarship.... One of my last students I had before I retired has stayed in touch with me a bit. This student mentioned her chem labs at UNC-CH last year were not all that impressive and it was a repeat in large number and sometimes not as deep as the labs she did with me in high school chemistry. That sounds like a humble brag on my part, and I guess it is, but it may be an indication of UNC-CH Chemistry or just that I likely did a lot more labs and such than a typical high school chemistry class. I really loved doing labs with students and I wanted to make sure the students enjoyed chemistry and would want to take more science in high school. Maybe enough of UNC-CH chemistry students are coming to them with weak or no labs skills and this is how that department deals with students lacking in lab skills but really good at test taking skills. Your son will be taking some chemistry as a physics major and I would love to hear his feedback of both departments.
If your son ever presents at a NCS-AAPT meeting as a student let me know and I will be sure to vote for him for an award.

Re: UNC-CH FB Recruiting Violatons?
Since many universities use the common app I don't think there will be a lot of extra effort to apply to a few more colleges. Some add a question or to extra for their own needs I think. I used that platform for evaluations but it was always the same for each student on my end as far as questions to answer and write about. And there is a window when the application is free, it seems, so take advantage of that as well for the schools that offer the free application.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:55 amMy oldest starts applying next month to colleges, but she only wants to apply to App. Her mom, also and App grad, is making her apply to other places. I would encourage her to write her own reference letter and have it ready to go. I started asking that of my students. One, it gave me a chance to read something they wrote. Two, It made it clear if they were willing to put in the effort to do this and not just expect a teacher to do all the heavy lifting. Third, it did save me some time and gave me a starting point to build around with massive or minimal edits to make it have my voice. And this is not an original idea I came up with but was asked of my daughter from a college professor. I thought it was a good idea. And have a resume ready to give to teachers or at least a list of activities and talking points to give to a teacher so they can write all the more about her accomplishments.
Do let her know that admissions is not just about ACT/SAT scores, GPA, class rank, and extracurricular activities. I am not sure what it all includes but it seems what major she is stating and how crowded or in need of students may play a part, big or small, in the decision.

Re: UNC-CH FB Recruiting Violatons?
For anyone applying for colleges, remember there is a week of free applications (for a good number of NC colleges). But if they are serious about that school they say to apply before that week to get into the early acceptance window.
