How many players on our roster this past season were actually recruited out of high school and were at least in their 3rd year at App?
Counting RS Sophomores (in their 3rd year) we had 29 HS recruited players on team.
16 played 3 or more games.
7 have/are graduating.
4 are in Portal.
14 of the 29 played in Bowl.
Of interest we had no true JRs all RS. Excluding RS-Sophs, just 16 total HS recruited players with 4 or 5 yrs of experience in Boone.
10 of those players played in all games.
7 have/are graduating.
1 in portal.

What is the likelihood that some of the portal guys wind up withdrawing and remaining at App? Excluding those who were asked to leave, would the others be welcome back? Anybody have a feel for this angle? Back in the day, most programs cut off a player for announcing his was leaving, but in today's world, I'm not sure teams can be this rigid.

Our HS recruiting/development has been so bad for 5 years now. Feel like 50% of each class quits after a year or transfers down. Hopefully we’re on to better recruiting and development of HS kids.

Agreed. I do believe a significant part of it is the 2020 seniors that chose to stay a 6th (or 7th) season in ‘21. That led to a bubble in our class counts that is just now working its way through the program. That is why the HS recruited upper classmen counts are currently low and instilled within our program (and others) the “transfer” revolving door.
2021 Feels like when Elton Brand was the first player ever to leave Coach K/Duke early for NBA. That opened the floodgates.

No research done by me. Didn't every school have to deal with that idea?

They did. But how many had virtually an entire class decide to stay for the year? The issue is the following season, we had almost 2 classes leave at once. Graduated Juniors + the super seniors.

That's my point. You evidently do not know the answer either. I do not know. It could have been several in the Group level. I just do not think one can stare something only applied to App. St. when it it could have applied to several or many... without the actual data to support it. We could be one of few or there could have been many.
I just scrolled JMU 2021 roster. Clicked on seniors. Every seniors bio I reviewed except 2 stated RS Senior 6th year.. heck, one stated 7th.
Not s statistically representative sample as just one team.

Surely we are not paying for a running back.....unless he can catch like a receiver and run like an allstar running back.

We should consider it if Trig is gone (not sure if he is or not). If Trig is gone, the only RB we have in the backfield is Kanye coming off an injury.

I think we’ve seen that you have to have multiple guys capable of leading the backfield at any moment in college. At least 3 that you feel really good about. Lewis got nicked against Marshall and Ark State I believe so the odds of him going 12+ games would seem low.

Maduro is in the Portal.
A liberal’s head just exploded over this post.
I’m a leftist, my head did not, in fact, explode. Thought it was pretty funny. That being said, can we try and keep politics in general off of this app state football board? We’re all Mountaineers at the end of the day, no need to stir shit

This is really impressive. I am glad people care about our country (regardless of party) enough even when they aren’t old enough to vote. Props to you, sir! You will do well.

How many portal players who come to Boone will be there more than 1 season? It’s not even worth learning their names anymore.
