If this happens I see FCS being slowly absorbed into G6 and remaining FCS going down to Div II.

Again I maintain g6 playoffs are a wishful pipe dream. Absolutely nothing will change in terms of players opting out early due to their agents saying they should stay healthy for p4 nil deals.

Tv slots will be bad and will be scheduled during other big sporting events and no one will watch just like fcs playoffs.

Sponsors will be few and far between and it will be a financial impact felt by all schools participating.

And regardless at the end of the year we lose the whole team and coaches to the portal.

G6 playoff is like a bandaid thats placed no where near the wound.

We should be fighting for the real fixes CFB needs and coming together with the rest of the g6 to lobby our interests, not rolling over and letting espn make us more irrelevant.

No money for a G6 tournament because very few people will care. Quality of play will nose dive as finances dry up.

Would have to take the place of current bowls and make the playoffs the bowls just like the regular playoff. So the bowl sponsors would have to be behind it.

A step back to 1AA. Will be hard to sell donors who invested in the move to FBS. No longer able to say we compete at the highest level. Would likely necessitate a major downsizing of the program to offset revenue loss.
But if we aren’t even in the same stratosphere with buying players, I mean finding, what other choice do we have? Because it’s gonna be a lot of seasons like this, playing in bowls no one wants to play in.

I disagree. Both fcs semi finals are on national tv today.

Zero chance of seeing 2 G5’s in the playoffs again. This first one is gonna be a bloodbath. I really don’t see why some people can possibly see App State competing at this level.

I don’t have the answer. Perhaps it comes down to the lesser of negative impacts. One of my disappointments is the loss of even the concept of student first , athlete second. I know so many who used their athletic abilities to earn an education and change generations with it that otherwise would have had no opportunity.

Tulane looks good tbh. They started awful but they’ve moved the ball well and their d line woke up.

Side note this Tulane team would have obliterated us this year. We are no where near the top of the G5 right now (captain obvious statement).

Tulane looks slow and overmatched, which is saying a lot considering they made most opponents look slow and overmatched.

So does Montana.

If they really wanted the best teams in the playoffs all you would have to do is win your conference championship to be in the playoffs. Why am I the only one that can see this? The beauty of this is that it would stabilize the conferences. It might even cause conferences to be more regional; the conferences may even get smaller where everyone plays everyone in their conference to determine the conference champion. It might even force Notre Dame to join a conference in football.

I just do not want Appalachian to be relegated to another IAA or FCS.

I agree. Tulane is not exactly showing that even a single G5 team deserves a spot in the playoffs. This was basically a bye week for Ole Miss.

If it’s inevitable, I actually am OK with it. We need to be realistic and realize that we are not peers with SEC and B1G. That’s not to say we can’t beat them, we have. Many times.

I’m just saying it would be nice to have something to play for other than being the sacrificial lamb of the current playoff. And there are quite a few good group of five schools with passionate fan bases that would watch. The real college football fans. The only thing I’m unsure of is how this would work with guys entering the transfer portal before the hypothetical G5 playoffs.
Do you exclaim “yes daddy harder” when nick saben and Paul finebaum are on TV encouraging more disparity between the G5 and P5 or you just silently get off on watching the talking heads supporting the destruction of most of the college football landscape.

Even if it is something else to play for, which I agree would be something, once there is no acess to the cfp the media money and relevance will vanish. It absolutely will. This board was full of people in the FCS days that bemoaned the lack of media coverage of even the fcs championship game. The truth is that even the temu bowl hosted at a high school stadium at 2pm on the CW, pays more than the FCS payouts. The reality of the situation is that once there is no acess, everyone will stop paying and the revenue will tank.
For the record I can’t stand Paul Finebaum and think he’s an arrogant POS. But you actually did raise a good point about the money side of things and lack of media coverage. I really don’t have the answer for fixing that. I guess my main point is that there needs to be something to play for between playoff 12-seed and Myrtle beach bowl. Otherwise conference championships are pretty meaningless.

How was Ole Miss QB at Ferris St last year?
Surprised he was not at a higher level school.

Too many teams. Not all conferences will ever be the same like the NFL. NFL forces teams to essentially play everyone to get a more pure winner.

They just need to take the top 12 teams in the ranking. Seems pretty simple to me.
