Keep the guys that want to be here AND are good, and dominate the portal. Keep the current committed recruits and get them signed in the ESD. Get as many as you can on Campus for early enrollees in December 2025.
Don’t be afraid to push the FCS talent to the portal.
Virginia is a great example of mining fcs and fbs. There are great players in fcs. You have to be receptive to it. You can’t be elitist about it

Interesting take from someone who played at a high level…. “ Close games tell you that you have the athleticism to compete, losing them tells you they aren’t being prepared “.
Players just didn’t make enough plays.
Dropped TD.
Missed kick to lose/win.
Defense got dawg walked in 45 seconds 75 yards up 6.
WR lines up “illegally”.

Coaches can help, but players just have to man up and make the play when it’s right there in front of them.

Coaches have to be better too.
You forgot, jumped offside on 4th down on a punt block attempt that wasn’t needed and fumbled a kickoff return when we had a lead.

The 2025 theme is when we don’t get blown out, DLO is holding the team together. When we lose in the most idiotic way ever, he can’t win with this inferior talent.

Just sad.

After talking to a few at Chick-fil-A in Wilkesboro on the way home, most just expected it to end this way. Complacency is running a muck.

I find that we don't have the football intelligence we have had in 2019 and 20 years ago.
We don't have players who have attention to detail.

Our past, WINNING TEAMS , the players could have coached the team...... my proof is all the current coaches that were players.

We need more "football smart players "

On last time, 1:20 to go in the game, you have the ball at the two and have to gain one yard to run out the clock. And, Arky State has no time outs and you're 3 points ahead. But, you still find a way to lose the game. This team has been tripping all over themselves continually from game one to yesterday. The last game of the year and we see miscue after miscue like it's the first practice of the season. Sorry folks that's coaching, hopefully DL will use this season as a learning session and next season we perform much better.

Post game interview for those interested. To be honest I didn't listen to the whole thing, I lost interest at the 1:59 mark when he said we're going to finish strong. Then again, I'll take him for his word that we'll "finish strong" and be back next season ready to right the ship.

I hated kicking the field goal, even after the penalty. I think there's a psychology of driving while down 3 versus down 6. When you're down 3, you have that field goal as an option and aren't as aggressive. But when you're down 6, its touchdown or bust, so you take more chances.

It's a moot point, but that third down play call was so awful.

Yes, moot point for sure. Call was terrible just like the failed two point conversion last week, keeping Swann in during JMU game, on and on. If we don’t get an OC during the off season I’m afraid we’re in for more bone head play calling next season.

A lot of wild stuff happened in that game, but losing the way we did is on coaching 100%, DL & staff have to own it.

You don't fire a coach after 1 year, unless he did something illegal or unethical that caused a stain on the program/school.

5-7 App is the same as 6-6 App in 2025, a medicore team at best. Yes, sneaking into a bowl game would have been a nice way to cap the season with a shot at a winning record, but would not have fundamentally changed what this team was this year...average at best.

Going to be a big off-season leading in to huge year for DL and the program...let's hope we start to see things turn around...but it's going to be a long wait.

We probably would have been embarrassed on national tv again anyway. Time to move on.

Yep, should have gone for the TD and win.

Also, still find it odd that we kept letting Arky get out of bounds on their last drive to stop the clock.

Isn’t offense supposed to be DLO’s bread and butter? That’s the part I keep coming back to.

And zero blitzes and no pass rush on obvious passing downs

DL handled the presser better than the postgame radio interview.

Once again he gave a cold answer about the post game locker room question.

A seasoned coach would have pulled an anecdote from the conversation, something of the nature of proud of the seniors for giving their all with all the adversity they faced these last few years and we’ll build on the foundation they showed.

I appreciated Brandon Turner’s comments to address that comment as well.

You’re the Head Coach of a Program, bring unity with fan base that was reeling after that one as well.

Thanks to all the third and fourth year players that without a doubt had the roughest 3-4 years of this program and never gave up. If you have time go listen to the rewind of the postgame and Larkins comments. That dude have his ALL.

* Just to address the mediocre comments. We were not mediocre this year. We were bad.

RPI was 106, behind 4 FCS teams. Mediocre to me means at worst middle of G5ish, so 80-100 in RPI.

ESPN power index, we are 114.
