One thing is for certain, bone head play calling aside, unlike the previous weeks the team definitely showed up to play yesterday. They exhibited heart, the win is credited to them.

I think coach is starting to understand App culture. The kids have not given up and we will be better next year.

Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
I’ll readily admit I’m completely cynical about the state of major “college” athletics now and I believe that the financial aspect is ruining much of the joy. I’m not naive to think that stars haven’t been paid for years. Cars showed up in driveways and envelopes were being passed. We all know about that stuff. I also want to believe that a majority of these young people still simply enjoy competing and hopefully a great majority love the school they play for. I’d be interested to know what the flip side of Portal numbers are. What is the percentage of football, basketball and I’ll add baseball players who actually stick it out at the schools they sign with. You really never see or hear those numbers. I wager it’s probably much higher than 50%- at least I hope so.

Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
I agree with your sentiment in general, but somewhat related to that is the fact that only around 50% (maybe lower) of high schoolers entering traditional 4 year undergrad programs in college graduate from the the school they first enroll in out of high school, so it is probably unfair to hold student-arhletes to a higher standard than regular undergrads.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 8:47 amWhat is the percentage of football, basketball and I’ll add baseball players who actually stick it out at the schools they sign with. Then again, most students who drop out or transfer do it for financial reasons. So maybe athletes should only be conpared to ither students who receive significant financial support from the school and I would guess the percentage in that catagory who finish at the same school is much higher than 50%.

Narrator: He did not party like it was 1994. In fact, he finished one beer and fell asleep in his recliner about halfway through a second while watching the Florida/Tennessee game. He was later awakened by his daughter who told him he was snoring loudly.

Agreed, we don’t have near the talent on defense, but those guys hustled to the ball all game and put enough pressure on the ball carriers to force fumbles.
The oline played much better, I noticed we pulled guards at a higher rate and it really opened up holes. Let’s continue to run the ball like that!

Even as many times as it’s been said, I still think the effect of injuries on this team is downplayed. DL hasn’t had time to recruit for depth and App has had SO many injuries. Looking at the game preview for next week on ESPN app- all of our offensive statistical leaders were injured yesterday. Still found a way to win.

The team played as hard as they have all year and that was nice to see. Really hope they win next game and get a bowl. The extra practice really helps for the upcoming year. Go App!

I get you but I wasn’t even thinking about graduating per se. I was really wondering about the general percentage that doesn’t transfer out purely for portal reasons. I know that even in the old world if we signed 15 players in the regular signing period all of them would not make it through 4-5 years for various reasons. So I’m interested in the general percentage who don’t enter the portal at all.

Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
I’m really beginning to hate college athletics but that’s anther argument for anther thread. Play calling… I can only remember three I really question. I’m sure there are others but three stick out. The two point conversion attempt. I actually like the idea. Under the circumstances of having our butts handed too us for what seems like forever, I’m ok with letting the team know “we’re all in” on this game!! Let’s go win this and don’t mess around! The play design was awful but as a player I could be motivated by the call. During the game we attempted a feeble pass on 4th and two. Seems we never have a play that can get a 3rd or 4th and short conversion. And anther time we ran straight up the gut 4th and one and failed. I have blamed the coaches for some of our losses so I gotta give’em credit this week. I really have respect for Marshall I don’t have the hate for them like I do for jmu, coastal and stink. I hate we beat Marshall and lost to the other three!

Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
My larger response to that immature statement would be that everyone here wants to win every game. It doesn’t happen. It’s even harder in this era. I’ve pouted and got mad at enough losses to appreciate when the team wins. I encourage you to do the same. I appreciated that this team could have coiled up and given up after 4 straight losses. They could have given up down 21-9 with no momentum. But they never gave up. Despite losing almost half of the initial starters through different periods of the season, we still have something to play for in the 12th game. I appreciate that effort and the effort they have put in to give themselves this opportunity.
Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
Thank you. Totally agree. I know all teams have injuries. But injuries have killed this team. Yes, up to head coach to bring in depth. But this team was playing at a pretty high level barring some terrible red zone mistakes before the onslaught oh injuries.ASU07 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 1:04 pmMrCraig wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 10:02 amEven as many times as it’s been said, I still think the effect of injuries on this team is downplayed. Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
I was thinking about who has been injured that is or would have been 1 or 2 on the depth chart. This also doesn’t include the 2 expected starters in Collins and Davis who were dismissed. The numbers of games is off the top of my head so may be a bit wrong.ASU07 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 1:08 pmThank you. Totally agree. I know all teams have injuries. Offense:
Swann - 5 games
Kohl - 4 games
Roberts - 12 games
Dubinion - Played in all but has been really hampered in conference play with a shoulder
Poindexter - 11 games
Jayden Ramsey - 2 games
Trent Ramsey - 5 games
Dozier - 3 games
Mbake - 5 games
Barnes - 1 or 2 games
Cummings - 4 games
Hamlett - 1 game
Defense:
McBurrows - 10 games
Hasz - 2 or 3 games
Berchal - 2 games
Berry - 12 games
Manuel - 1 game
Farmer - 1 game
You can see why defense may have the most consistency and offense has been all over the place.

Doopah, Lawson Jr saw minutes too. Both hurt.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 1:18 pmI was thinking about who has been injured that is or would have been 1 or 2 on the depth chart. Not sure how much extra practice matters any longer when you turn over the majority of your team and especially the play makers.
