No reason for him to do so. He has plenty of money and does not need it. Plus, why work for us when he is going to get the rest of his contract regardless? Not sure what he could do for us either.

To be close to his sons? Thats a reason. Most fathers want to be close to their sons.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
He could come to every game just as a father since he now has more time. Dolphins owe him for rest of this season and 2026 season so he could just relax at home and not have to work again until January of 2027 if he wants.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:55 pmTo be close to his sons? Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Even more reason to bring someone like Grier onboard (no idea if it’s even realistic) if we don’t have to hardly pay him. Sitting at home is nice until you sit at home, from my experience.

Very good question. What would he do for us?

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Surely a person who was a scout for 20 years and GM for 10 that managed a roster, salary cap, hirings/firings, and people at the NFL level could be a benefit for a Sun Belt program.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 7:49 amVery good question. What would he do for us?

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
That is pretty much what he would be but my point is that he does not need it and can be around his son without doing any work. I just don't see extra value in it for him.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
The value to him is that he has to remain relevant in the industry. GMs are like coaches in that their number one priority is to remain employed. Sitting out a couple of years and you risk not having a seat at the table.

I tend to agree with both statements but “sitting at home” with NFL GM money could be a touch different than what we’re thinking about.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:29 amTHIS is sage wisdom.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 12:22 amSitting at home is nice until you sit at home, from my experience.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I am referring to the money. The Dolphins will be paying him this season and next season so he does not need to come work at App for money and Loggains will let him see his son without taking a job. Most former GMs don't even rush into NFL jobs while still collecting a check from previous teams so why would he come work for a G6 when we can't pay him more than Dolphins are already paying him?BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 12:16 pmHow do you know what he "needs"?

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
He has plenty of connections that will allow him to land somewhere in the NFL when his Dolphins money runs out. Most NFL people go to the Senior Bowl or NFL Combine to talk to people if they want to stay in sight and mind of NFL teams so I would imagine he would do that if he wants to stay relevant. I fully expect him to be at our games to support his son and then go to those events or take a job at a P4. We can't pay him enough money to make it worth putting in 30+ hours a week at App in between NFL jobs. I will be curious to see if he decides to go back to the NFL or take a GM job with a P4 team since a lot of NFL people have started going to P4 programs the last few years.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 12:35 pmThe value to him is that he has to remain relevant in the industry. Yeah he can stay home making millions. NFL GM money is very different from what folks on here are thinking.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 3:37 pmI tend to agree with both statements but “sitting at home” with NFL GM money could be a touch different than what we’re thinking about.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:29 amTHIS is sage wisdom.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 12:22 amSitting at home is nice until you sit at home, from my experience.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
People who get to that level aren’t there for the money. Yes that sounds counter-intuitive, but while they get paid a lot of money for what they do, they don’t do it for the money. The job is the dopamine.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:49 pmHe has plenty of connections that will allow him to land somewhere in the NFL when his Dolphins money runs out. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Of course they love football but once most people get to a certain level they aren't going to do the same job for 1/10 the price they were getting paid for it. It is why you don't see a ton of NFL players go to the CFL or UFL once they stop getting NFL calls. Chris Grier has been working a long time and has good money coming in for another year so he just does not need to come work for App. He started in the NFL back in the mid 90s with the Patriots and has been with the Dolphins since either 2000 or 2001 working a very hard job. Unless we are willing to pay him more than he would make from the Dolphins while he sits at home I just don't see any reason to come work at App.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:58 pmPeople who get to that level aren’t there for the money. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I wasn’t making a case that he could come to App. My point, which you clearly missed is that guys like Chris aren’t going to be content sitting at home while getting paid from a former employer. Players aren't even part of the question so there is no need to try and create relevance with them. CEO’s don’t build a company and retire, they build it and move on to the next challenge.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 9:45 pmOf course they love football but once most people get to a certain level they aren't going to do the same job for 1/10 the price they were getting paid for it.
