We this, we that. They own us right now. Plain and simple. Until we decide we’re going to value this game as much as they do, we’ll continue to lose it. It’s their Super Bowl and rightfully so. For some reason they come for blood every year and we aren’t ready.

Now, everyone who disagrees, give me a stupid lecture on how our rivals are only southern, JMU and Marshall. Times have evolved, they should be fueling Southern levels of hate in this fanbase.
This had the feelings and earmarking of a rivalry game shootout right in the second quarter; as a coach you have to sense that, and do everything to avoid that. Ain't nobody in their right mind going to blame or even think it would be a bad call to go for the touchdown with 4 seconds left in the half instead of kicking the field goal based on what was happening at the time. After a disrespectful onside, then CCU still pumping the gas with 16 left but throwing an interception - no better medicine in a rivalry game than to smack them in the face with a touchdown before half-time. You have to match the intensity of the other team. I would have called a timeout, called the team up, and told those boys we are going for it - no field goal or one possession lead is going to win this if we don't get crazy here and now, and for the second half here on. Even if we didn't’t get it, I would have set the tone for the second half that we are going to play smash mouth football - get ready. If we did score a touchdown before half-time I would have personally as a coach gone to the student section and made a spectacle. Then we come out like wild dogs in the second half. Ain't no one on defense excited about intercepting and returning to the other teams 12/13 yardline to squeak away with 3 points.

We scored TD’s on our first three offensive possessions and didn’t reach the end zone again offensively.
We stopped them their first possession of the second half, then gave us 4 straight TD drives.
We had two chances to win the game and kicked a FG and went 4 and out, and still has a chance to tie.
We had a 6’7” QB who had 7 or 8 balls batted down or knocked out of his hand.
Coastal wanted it more than we did, but our coaches also had no answers after the midpoint of the second quarter.
They were flat out better than us up front. There isn’t a coaching answer when this is the case.Game starts and stops in the trenches. Until we recruit and develop the best OL/DL of the conference, will continue to be .500
I agree they were better in the trenches. But, they were also blitzing almost every play from the 2nd Q on and we couldn’t take advantage. Where were the bubble screens today? We also went away from screen passes in general.
And, we quit rolling Kohl out after early success (his hurdle/getting dinged up could have affected that)
Defensively, we are no different than last year. Our down lineman get zero pressure on the QB, nor make tackles for loss.
Their QB was limping between every play and still running through us
And, they scored two TD’s when we substituted and weren’t ready for the snap.

Watching UT-Bama, it was mentioned that UT is the second worst team in the country in dropping passes. Only App is worse. Cost us the game today.

I think people have to stop getting too high on this team after every win, and too low after every loss. We're half a recruiting/portal cycle into rebuilding the roster. I think we've improved in some ways, but there is clearly a long way to go. All we've proven so far is we're better than the really bad teams. Hopefully we can beat a few decent teams to finish the season out and make a bowl. I'm concerned about the offense if both Ramsey's and Poindexter are out for an extended period.

We most certainly rank at or near the top of the most stupid plays by a team. Dropping or having a ball stripped near the goal line, trying to return kickoffs and getting tackled well behind the 25. Jumping offsides way too many times, offensive PI, and the list goes on and on. Bad teams do stupid stuff over and over and talk about correcting it but don’t.

At least some of our players were pissed off after the game to not let the Coastal player plant their flag in the middle of Kidd Brewer. You won , just shake hands and go home.

As far as physicality goes we have improved but we simply aren’t there yet. Our O just flat out pushing that one TD in was a sample of what most of the game needs to look like. Our D is much more physical than last year but CCU just flat out had better athletes. And they did want it more. We are improving.

Honest question. What are we doing better this year than last year?
Winning games. This time last year App was 2-4 with a cancelled game against Liberty and a 66-20 loss to Clemson.

4-3 is about what I expected at the point in the season with a new coaching staff and half a new team.

We probably need to reconsider the QB spot if Swann is healthy. He has more zip and if IF he makes good decisions (big if, I’ll grant you), puts us in a better position in must-pass scenarios.
I don't think there QB cost us this game. Defense did, and a dropped ball at the goal line that would have put game away.
Swann proved in his chance that he can’t make good decisions. Kohl’s stats are better in nearly every category and Kohl has 0 INTs to Swann’s 6. Who you start at this point is a no brainer.

Call me crazy but this feels like a team that can beat ODU. Just very talented but lacks consistency.
ODU has lost two in a row and seems to be trending downward.
GA Southern and Ark State aren’t very good this year.
Marshall looks pretty even with App.
JMU is the only really strong opponent left on the schedule.
Still plenty of room to have a very respectable season with a first year head coach.

No doubt that the loss yesterday was a hard one to take. Plenty of mistakes were made but there were also some very good moments in the game (mostly by the offense and the awesome punt return). I agree with the comment above that we need to stop getting so "up" after every win and so "down" after every loss. The truth is that we are where most expected us to be. We knew coming into this season that we were a rebuild in process with a first year head coach. We definitely have some gaps to fill (OL and D backfield mostly). Despite the injuries, I think the rest of the season can still go ok and we will wind up with 6 or 7 regular season wins.

I'm a bit baffled by a couple of the strong negative comments about coach Loggains. He's in a learning curve but seems to be climbing it quickly. Personally, I like him so far and I think he could wind up being a great coach. He knows the game, calls it like he sees it in press conferences, and has a very professional (meaning business like...not a reference to the nfl) approach.

I'm frustrated but still proud to be a MOUNTAINEER!

ODU hasn't just lost two in a row. They've been dominated two in a row. Seems like their wheel has run off. I think APP is the team who is pissed off and has something to prove next week. ODU is broken and hopefully we can take advantage!

DJ will have his words with the D and I think we see improvement.

Two weeks in a row the ODU QB has looked average. However, he is a dual threat QB .. and the passing part is better than Beach Chickens QB. Given our banged up OL and RB and porous D, we will have our work cut out for us.
Hopefully, we right the ship this week.

Not one player’s participates in the buglers dream pointing any longer, it took half a season to kill a tradition. DL may be fine on the field longterm, but the small changes to the program off the field are starting to add up from a fan perspective.
