Cignetti brought back their mascot this year they had not had one for years before this. That is a coach who understands how important your roots are. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/c ... 637663007/

That is a stroke of genius. https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... cot-return

People love nostalgia. Remember how much people loved it when they brought back Yosef as Victory Yosef. What else do people remember fondly that could be brought back? Heck the school brought back the logo from the Mack Brown/Sparky Woods era with the flying Yosef and the Mike Working A Sunday. https://www.helmethistory.com/appalachian-state.html

...and ice in cups, with lids.
They could bring back a REAL Yosef and some REAL gold. I never bought into the reason we went to yeller. IIRC it was difficult to get the old or Vegas gold?

Here in Indy the coffers will runneth over to keep him. The only reason IU has never poured the effort into the Football program is lack of winning. now here is a taste of it here and I don't think IU be that willing to let it go back to the previous norm. He's 64 not sure about him wanting to start over again in HV. It's not beyond belief that Cig could win a chipper right here, or be in the running yearly as much as he could at PSU. IMHO Added bonus IU would forevermore be the house that Cig built, not just the add on room to JoePa's house.
I've heard this too. Indiana has money to burn, they just won't use it unless there's demonstrated success. Two years ago, 9 wins was a top standard for Indiana.

Cignetti has a chip on his shoulder from years of waiting to get his shot and having to bet on himself.

Crazy thing is that Indiana doesn't have many blue chip players like other top programs, and that does matter. That might hinder them in December and January, but no doubt they're punching above their weight class.

Not bad for a guy a decade ago was coaching in D2.
yup I think people really underestimate Indiana vs someone like Va Tech. They have one of the largest alumni networks in the world ( *systemwide, I think only Ohio State is bigger), they have multiple billionaires actively involved. They are in the richest conference. The only people that I think could lure Cignetti away are true blue bloods that can offer not only the money but access to recruits that make a true run to the NC easier. Thinking Mich/OSU, Alabama Georgia Texas ND. USC/PSU/Fl/TAMU/Ok I consider 2nd tier blue bloods and honestly don't see much difference between them and IU. Maybe FL so the recruiting trips are shorter.

Although IU may not be paying the $ that some other schools are paying in NIL, in the new era, teams like IU and Texas Tech can change their fortunes in a couple of years if they have backing from alumni.
It will be interesting to see how much IU invests in players once the current contingent passes through. There were quite a few JMU players that transferred to IU. They may have been cheaper than some others in the portal given history with the coach. Those initial transfers will eventually graduate.
Congratulations to IU and Tech.
I will say it is nice to see different teams getting the opportunity.

The second tier P4s are the winners in the NIL/TP era. They benefit from top tier recruits on the bench transferring out and the proven G6 talent they can will in a $ battle. If I'm in their shoes I cut my HS recruiting in half from historical norms.
