Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
I thought the RB room looked pretty good yesterday. Dubinion and Lewis looked great! Keith got a few snaps and, although there was nothing overwhelming, I liked how he moved the pile on his first run. Alexander looked promising in his carries as well.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Based on last year - B+
Based on reality with all the coaching and personnel changes - B++
Based on our unrealistic expectations - C+
Defense (vastly improved) - A-
It looks like some of the optimism I had after sitting behind the bench at So. Miss is coming to fruition. I was very worried after the Boise game.
I just looked and ESPN has us projected for a bowl game. Currently in New Mexico would love to move up the bowl payout ladder some. Continued wins might do that.

So far I give it a C+. Those B's and A's will come. We still get sloppy and have penalties. Receivers still dropping balls. All in all it is coming together and we will get there.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
We had 1 5 yard penalty for delay of game that was intentional. Had a roughing the passer on our 2nd string defense. We had one other penalty for 10 yards, but that was it.

Pretty sure that roughing the passer was on Thomas Davis.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 12:32 pmWe had 1 5 yard penalty for delay of game that was intentional. Had a roughing the passer on our 2nd string defense. We had one other penalty for 10 yards, but that was it.

Haha, you’re right but he was playing like a 2nd stringer on that play.AppDub wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 12:34 pmPretty sure that roughing the passer was on Thomas Davis.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 12:32 pmWe had 1 5 yard penalty for delay of game that was intentional. 3 FBS wins against competition with a combined 2-17 record.
2 FBS losses against opponents with a combine 8-4 record.
Conclusion: too early to tell what we are.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
going into this season....i thought we could be 2-10 or 10-2....just so many unknowns....but i like the huge improvement on defense....i really like our offensive play calling....we have a very good running back and solid qb in kohl and potential in swann if he can throw to his own teamates. we are improving all the way around....solid B

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
At this point, I’m seeing improvements everywhere. Defense continues to get better every drive. Fewer penalties as the season goes on. Play calling getting better (less predictable, especially compared to previous seasons). Good rotation of players (not pulling a back when they were on a hot streak). Coach DLo is growing into the role week by week with play calling and clock management - remember it took Satt a while too.
I’m not going to give an A rating, but we’re definitely trending in the right direction. Solid B to B+ at the moment.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Things we know:
We have a solid RB and good WRs with pretty ceilings.
Our oline isn’t a strength and deep remains a concern.
QB remains a question, but JJ’s to lose at this point.
Front seven on defense is good at stopping the run, they struggle at times to create pressure and our secondary is vulnerable especially in the middle of the field.
K is a strength, P not as much.
Coaching staff works hard and finally played clean football yesterday.
Schedule gets tougher, but should be able to get to six which at the beginning of the season would be welcomed.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Trying to keep my perspective. We haven’t played but two good teams and we lost to both. HOWEVER, it’s been many years since I’ve seen back to back games that the team played APP football. We are better each week. Keep it up and we’ll be all the way back by the end of the year.

I would be as well.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:48 amIf we beat Coastal, Georgia Southern and JMU but lose the other games, I’d be very happy.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:20 amPrior to the last 2 games I would have said C+ overall but I will say solid B now. I can see why some think we could win out after the last two weeks but the SBC is going to be difficult and I am still sticking with 7-5 or 8-4 prediction for now. If we win the next 2 games with little or no turnovers then I will change my grade to B+ or A- and adjust my projection to 8-4 or 9-3. Fingers are crossed!
