I hope he enjoys a well earned retirement and he is a model of how to come back from a stroke, but that does not excuse the point made by CVAPP. And I say that while I enjoyed the heck out of GameDay and him putting on the Yosef head a few years ago.
You don’t like Corso? Why am I not surprised? Did he not care about climate change enough?

Re: Corso pal......You will be missed.
I think he was too much a mouth-piece of big money college athletics overall. And I am not really fond of his on-air style as a personal preference. Though Dick Vitale was more irritating to me. So some just personal preference, some a reaction to the power that ESPN holds over college football and there college sports and he is the center of that on GameDay.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:40 pmMcLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 9:34 pmI have only had cable TV for a few years so I never was a regular viewer of ESPN programs. I read where he tried to make crayons completely out of soybeans. I likely would appreciate his views on environmental issues.

Someone having a different opinion than you or anyone else does not make them an idiot. It is one's opinion. Personally, I liked Corso. However, any time Dickie V was broadcasting a game I turned sound down to zero and put on music. He is nauseating to listen to for me.

Corso vitale and herbstreit et al. represent the commodification of college athletics.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:33 pmHe’s a great addition to college football. You are embarrassing yourself
You can trace a direct line between Gameday, big tv money and the death of amateur college athletics.
They weren’t disinterested third parties, they were active participants in turning college athletics in what it is today.

Vitale was always irritating to listen to for me. Every game he did had a “diaper dandy” or had some incredible coach. He supported way too many scum bag coaches in my opinion.

He is not a god to anyone. He was just a big piece of a show that is heavily popular. There are a lot of people who like him. I just don’t get why anyone would waste time trashing on him in this moment. There are a lot of dirt bags in media out there but he isn’t one of them.

Well, everybody has an opinion on everything. That’s what makes the world go round. And that’s what a forum is for. Sticks and stones ….. I won’t hate on anybody that is united by the black and gold. And I’ll take DJ over any of these game announcers and panel experts of today. But I’m prejudiced toward DJ in the past and our crew of today.

Corso is , or was , an entertainer. A very successful one. I enjoyed his performances when I caught them , which was rare due to Saturday travel , home or away. I certainly wish him the best.

Agree with this. I also think gambling has made a big difference too.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 11:19 amCorso vitale and herbstreit et al. represent the commodification of college athletics.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:33 pmHe’s a great addition to college football. When do you think gambling got really big in college sports? That seems much more recent than other issues, though it is part of the problem now.

SMU and the SEC were paying players long before gambling became a thing

While we’re pointing fingers, don’t forget to point one at ESPN. Up until ~10 years ago, the athletic media world (press, networks, etc.) was quite fragmented. Around that time was when ESPN started swallowing up other media outlets/networks.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:23 amWhen do you think gambling got really big in college sports? But did anyone notice that, after all of this consolidation under the Mothership, online betting rapidly went from the fringe to a multi-billion dollar industry in short order?
Fewer people with more power in business areas offering huge profit potential typically equals collusion and advancement of “shared interests.”

10-15 years ago is also when technology advanced to make online betting that much easier. But you do make a valid point about media consolidation and ESPN is clearly a large part of that is the world of sports.Bootsy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:49 amWhile we’re pointing fingers, don’t forget to point one at ESPN. Re: Corso pal......You will be missed.
Agree or disagree with him, Corso had an awesome career. From coaching ball to talking about it every weekend for over 30 years, while traveling the country, is a pretty sweet gig. Glad he got a proper send off and fitting his big picks (FSU-OSU) and all his former teams won.
After seeing FCS teams get to host, much to the chagrin of our fan base, Game Day finally paid App State a visit while Corso donned Yosef headgear. I’m appreciative of the spotlight and for Yosef being 1 of the 69 different headgears LC picked throughout his legendary career.
As for college sports gambling, scandals go back to at least the 50’s (point shaving) with congress passing the Sports Bribery Act in ‘64 after the 1961 (fixing) scandal involving pro bball player Jack Molinas. The incident and Molinas’ involvement inspired the 1974 movie we all know and love, “The Longest Yard.” Gambling has been involved with college sports for the entirety of most of our lives, it’s just more widespread now thanks to the internet and more states opening up to gambling.
