Whats up Mountaineers. Been awhile since I have checked in on ya'll.
Was reading earlier in the thread about the schedule and thought I would share what our AD has told me.
After our initial 2 game H/H series the desire was there to set up another series as quickly as possible. That series was slated to start in 26 @ A, 27 @ C, 28 @ A and 29 @ C. Then the 2020 coivd season hit and yal'll had a team cancel - I think it was Wake. We had Tenn and Norfolk St cancel which left us both with openings, so mid Aug they added the 2020 game in Boone and put the return game for that in 2030.
The Duke Mayo game is totally separate from the 4 game 26-29 series and the 2 game 2020/2030 series. It is run by the Charlotte Sports Foundation - and their ticket management sucks. We are financial equals in this neutral site match up as there is not a traditional "home" team.
With regard to tickets, each school get their allotment. I was told we sold out our initial club allotment, that might be crap - but from what I heard we did very well with the club/foundation presales. I do not know if that was our entire allotment or just a chunk of the best seats as an early release. For the folks that got their tickets then they did not get to pick their seats. The seats were assigned by club ranking later after presales were done. After the early sales then you could pick your seat. I was also told you guys are crushing us after the early sales were over. I would expect you all to have more fans there as I also expect there will be more walk up and late purchases from ya'll.
From one of our fans who took at look at the money side:
"For the 2024 game, Tennessee and NC State were guaranteed $4 million each, or 45% of net revenue. The 2023 game between UNC and South Carolina saw the teams receive $2.5 million each, an increase from the $2 million guarantee due to high ticket sales, Clemson and Georgia tech got 5 million one year. The payouts appear be be tied to ticket sales, with a minimum guaranteed amount. Given that the upper levels aren’t selling tickets, I suspect what we get will be substantially less than these other games. I bet it’s still a million or more though, but that’s just a total guess."
If we both get to make a million bucks, its an easy game for both fanbases to attend and pretty high profile AND we both make a million or more then I am going to say its a win for us both in this era of money is king college football.
Anyway, good luck Friday. With 2 new staffs and the portal and NIL nonsense I have absolutely no idea what kinda game this will be. We follow ya'll up with Chapel Hill in Charlotte the next weekend, so the first 2 weeks will be interesting for us.
Also game note - we still havent officially announced our QB either. Chapel Hill transfer Conner Harrell got a captain spot so we are assuming its him, but not official.
