When spring games were a constant, For more than a decade the Spring game days involved early morning Trout fishing on South Fork New River off the greenway or out near Hound Ears before it was gentrified. Then the game, followed with more fishing, many were the days of flurries and wind.

Please pardon me as I wish to share a remembrance from my early years. :D

Once (While I was still in school) it suddenly snowed about three inches at the South Fork after the game. Wading in the river felt warmer than being out in the open. The snow resting on the freshly budding branches created a arch of silence and bowing limbs. To this day I can envision again gazing upstream at the snow-covered walking bridge and downstream at the river bend both framed with tunnel of snow-laden foliage while the biggest snowflakes that only a miracle can make steadily kept floating down.

Even the sound of the river was hushed it struct me as incredibly surreal in that moment. I thought Angels must be walking by. I finished fishing that bend climbed out of the steep bank near the downstream bridge as the Full Sun came out. Caught and released several Brownies, more than most trips out there on that run.

By the time I slogged back to the covered bridge all the snow had melted and fallen into the waters the mirage was gone. In that short glimpse of time I knew then, without a doubt, that Boone is a piece of Heaven, and here in Indy, 35 years later, I remain unconvinced otherwise. So many other miracles in, around and about Boone attest to this also!

Ok, I’ll go first. Honestly I didn’t learn much. But we either have a really good run defense or a really bad run game on offense.

Here’s my take:

— Leon looked great. If you don’t count tight ends, he might be our best receiver.
— Kohl looked great in the first half. Swann looked great in the second half. Both are quality quarterbacks.
— Gillon was surprisingly effective and elusive. Needs to add bulk to his frame but should push for QB3 role.
— As expected, the tight ends looked great.
— Offensive line and running backs struggled in first half but seemed to find their footing in the second half.
— Defense looked less porous than the last two seasons but gave up notable red-zone yardage.
— We’re going to miss having Michael Hughes around.
— Crowd was amazing on a 38-degree day. Sideline interview between Adam Witten and Shemar Jean-Charles (Seahawks) hit all the right notes. Unfortunately, our sound system didn’t.

My impressions….
PLUS
Love the idea of a spring game.
Great crowd today
Interview with SJC was really good
They sold beer

DELTAS
Everyone, including the band, was on the west side which made it hard to hear the band and dang near impossible to do an APP STATE chant (band should have been in the endzone)
Sound system sucked and very little commentary (or explanation) about what was going on on the field.
Entire production was very poor.
No programs with player names and numbers

Still enjoyed it and hope they build on it next year and make it better.

Awesome crowd, didn't scan parking pass or game tickets, running things more like a pro team now, #17 is our QB.

It’s hard to make strong statements like that based on a few plays. Kohl looked amazing. Swann looked bad early and then looked awesome as well. One of those two will be the starter.

It is funny that the guy the previous staff was content with starting is the 4th best QB on the roster currently. There are other positions where that is visible as well.

Defense is still a worry. Littlejohn was beat on a deep TD by Larkins. There were multiple missed tackles that led to a TD by Barnes.

The defense won the first half but the offense won the second half in my opinion.

Pretty good take. I think I see why we have retreated from “spring games”. Tailgating was “game day” like and very good. Sound system is terrible! Lack of any reference material for name and numbers of players, terrible. (Game was lackluster at best- announcer gave us very little) Crowd noise might have been good on field but with East Side closed it was weak. Overall I’d give an overall grade of C.

I wonder if the lack of player info and names was by design.
