The NCAA has a limit of 25 and allows 28 NLI's (go figure) but most schools are finding ways around these. In 2012 Miami signed 33 and Alabama signed 26 with not a gray shirt in sight. This year alone several schools are over 25 already (Tenn has 29 commits and Miami has 27) and none are showing as gray shirts. The big boys have ways around this and the 85 limit.GoApps70 wrote:firemoose - Do you have any idea what the maximum number is that we can sign?
Seem to recall 25, but many colleges sign more it seems. Guess some are brown shirted, but are we in a different area with the NCAA since we will be going from FCS Transitional to FBS Transitional?
As this applies to us as a transitional it says basically if you need (insert number here) to reach the magic number of 85 then you can sign (insert number here). You just have to get to 85. After that it's about money and playing with the loopholes. After this year I would expect us to be in the average range of 15-25 each year but I used the 25-30 number because of who we are losing and how many more we need to get to 85. I'm sure the staff is hoping for all recruited players to get us to 85 but if we don't get enough we'll just add a few PWO's to scholarship, like we did for the 2013 class.
I would love to see a full group of graded, recruited players myself. The biggest problem we face again is that it's still a long time until Feb and, as we are going after better players, then there is a better chance that someone higher up the food chain will step in at the last second to poach someone. Then we have to try and do the same thing. Just love the wonderful world of recruiting at the FBS level.
