We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. I agree. We have one rival and a bunch who want to be. Like you say all conference games are important but just not real rivals.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 5:06 amIMHO, we have one rival ..Stink.. period
Other games are important as they conference games. Not rivals to me.
UNCC not a rival...

Nobody can really define what a rivalry game is, I think we have a number rivals. Others think we can only have one. Re: ACC
I am pretty sure none of them like us. Even ODU likes to beat us. I think everyone likes to beat us because it tells them where their program is as a whole. You could add Liberty to that list, because when that game last year was cancelled, they took it pretty hard. Not playing that game really caused their season to tank.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:02 pmBy that logic our rivals are: GS, Marshall, JMU, CCU, ECU, Wake, UNCCH, Furman, Wofford, WCU.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 2:18 pmEver time we have played UNCC the stadium atmosphere has said, this is a rivalry game.AppWyo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:15 pmIf App loses to UNCC in Football, that will create an instant rivalry. Re: ACC
Every opponent can be said to be a rival, but most in sports reserve that moniker for a select few and it needs to cut both ways to a great rivalry.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:52 pmNobody can really define what a rivalry game is, I think we have a number rivals. GS is the only one that can claim that currently, but Marshall is close and JMU will be one soon.

Re: ACC
Let's just give them all a rival trophy so they don't feel left out. I really worry about hurting their feelings.
Our rival is the stink. That's it. One more might manifest but it will take years and years to truly become one.

Marshall was it before the Stink, we had a break, but think they are still a rival. Maybe not as hated currently, but still consider them a rival. And I hate Coastal and JMU more than any other teams and think a lot of our fan base feels the same way. We don’t have as much history with them, but the hate level is sufficient for me to consider them a rival.

jmu is just that kidd down the street. Three or for years younger than us and just will not go away. When we force him to go away he runs home and tells mommy that it's not fair.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 8:45 amMarshall was it before the Stink, we had a break, but think they are still a rival. Re: ACC
Marshall is a rival for those of us who now need a colonoscopy. JMU is a rival for me, as I live in enemy territory.
All that said, I found that I was more upset over losing to the stink than I was losing to the turds last week. So I guess sometimes I’m more moved by the sizzle than the steak.

Re: ACC
I heard it said years ago (an opinion) that for two teams to have a rivalry each needs to beat the other fairly evenly. I think the Yankees own a decided edge over the Red Sox head to head. It’s all an opinion. Die hard UNC fans don’t consider State a rival given the win discrepancies. I think it comes down to being the team you want to beat over any other in every sport (for college). I grew up a Redskins fan and the Cowboys were the hated rival but in the 80’s and part of the 90’s the Giants and Eagles were close on the rival scale. All that being said I believe a team can have more than one rival. Who cares?! lol

Re: ACC
I still have residual Marshall hate from my days in school, but I get why fans under 45 might not get it yet. Hopefully, that rivalry will grow again.AppinVA wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:49 amMarshall is a rival for those of us who now need a colonoscopy. JMU is a rival for me, as I live in enemy territory.

Where I live in central VA, I intertact with JMU fans/alums every day, including many friends and co-workers, so personally to me JMU is App's biggest rivalry because that is where the most energy is. But obviously, that is a personal exception that doesn't apply to most.
And I hate Coastal just about as much as the Stink.
So, I go with App currently has multiple rivals, and that makes it more fun for us all.
