The HC for Miss State after Leach’s passing?

Now that is a huge hire. He’s a stud. How did we swing this?!

Going from Scott Sloanto Zach Arnett may just be the singular biggest upgrade at any one assistant coaching post I can ever remember in the history of App State football

Loggains raiding the SEC for coaches and recruits. Keep it up. Arnett is going to bring in some recruits, that’s for sure.

Arnett's Mountaineer Talk episode should be just 20 minutes of Mike Leach stories.

From a quick series of Google searches

From his head coaching buyout contract, Arnett is getting paid $1.5 mil per year by Mississippi State in 2025 and 2026, minus whatever his current jobs pay him.

I have asked for a shut down defense for years. I look forward to the Rocky Long Defense chewing up every opponent on our schedule. I want to see some shutouts again.

In another article
” Arnett was a highly sought-after defensive coordinator when he was at Mississippi State and San Diego State. Only Alabama and Georgia boasted better defensive EPA numbers in 2022 than Arnett’s Mississippi State squad.”

I will take those numbers

Going to have to work hard to improve talent to get those shutouts though as well.

If DLo can bring in SEC coaches then he ought to be able to bring in top tier players too

Let’s see how this plays out

I think this guy runs in different circles than what our previous guys. I expect we are going to see vastly different results due to his much bigger network of connections. That is a huge advantage in the business world in my experience.

Any chance an admin can pin a post in the beginning of this thread, just quickly summarizing a list of known assistant coaches hired/retained?

I appreciate everyone’s input, just hate having to comb thru pages just to find who’s been hired.

And if possible, a pinned comment for the transfer portal in / out. Thanks in advance

I think it helps he is still getting paid by previous employer. We will take it how we can get it. Getting good SEC talent at the player level may require NIL money. We shall see how it plays out. Appears to be a great hire on paper that is for sure

This might all crash and burn but I have got to give PROPS to DG for going all in on this. If it does work out then DG should be named AD of the decade. I feel that App State is relevant once again.

Like realistic wondering question --- why is a guy like that dropping down to a G5 school?

Thinking out loud, hot DC, Head Coach of SEC, now G5 DC, usually they get in at the P5 level they stay at that p5 level... just me wondering.

He completely crashed and burned as HC at Miss State. It takes a little bit to rebuild the reputation after that.
Miss State is also paying his $1.5 million salary for the next two seasons, minus whatever he makes at a new job. So, salary doesn't really matter.
If I had to just venture a guess, I'd say he might view App as either a good stepping stone to a P4 DC job and/or as HC replacement whenever Loggains leaves. Plus all the other positives to living in the high country as opposed to Mississippi (although Oxford is a pretty cool town).

App won't get SEC starter talent without way more NIL money. However, I bet they can poach some 2nd stringers who will trade NIL money for starting positions/more playing time.
