I’d had a lot of hope for Fumbles, but I wouldn’t call him going to Liberty a dagger.

This is what I don't understand. This started with " the schools are making millions off the backs of the poor players". If that is the case why do we need collectives? Just use all those millions that the schools are making off the backs of the poor players. Problem solved!

I could see collectives going by the wayside once the House Settlement takes affect. The collectives lose their allure if the same money can be donated to the school and be tax deductible.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:07 pmThis is what I don't understand. If App stops having walk on players I will without a doubt stop watching college sports.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:11 pmI think it is fair to say that the days of the walk on as it was in the good old days is probably gone. If you want to leave, new school pays the buyout and pays player more than what you were paying. That would eliminate some of it if the buyouts are enough to hurt so to speak. Some of the Power schools are just buying talent because they can with the war chest. At least schools that lose players...they get renumeration for time coaching and building players to get to Power level.
Personally, I would like App to consider a lower roster size so as to have more funds per player. Understand the risk with depth, however, we got to figure out ways to compete in the new world with less funds than larger schools.

I’m afraid you’re gonna have to find something else to watch. 105 scholarships removes the need, or want, for walk-ons.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:56 pmIf App stops having walk on players I will without a doubt stop watching college sports.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:11 pmI think it is fair to say that the days of the walk on as it was in the good old days is probably gone. Your choice. Noble stance, but I imagine most people will be fine with winning regardless of who wears the jersey.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:56 pmIf App stops having walk on players I will without a doubt stop watching college sports.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:11 pmI think it is fair to say that the days of the walk on as it was in the good old days is probably gone. I’m really torn. I’m not fine with all that’s going on with college football but I’m still a fan of App State. I’m afraid it’s not going to be long before it’s no longer “college” football, if we’re not there already.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:23 pmYour choice. This is what makes me angry....a semi pro league would not be successful. The money is all generated by the college name. I cannot believe the colleges don't see this. Someone in corporate American has found a way to make the rich richer. It is so wrong. You put the western North Carolina Elks on a jersey and play at Kid Brewer and NO ONE is showing up. Same with the Central North Carolina Hill climbers......NO ONE is showing up. You put a school fool of walk on and Call them AppState and people are coming to the game.goapps93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:36 pmI’m really torn. Some of those who would have been walk-ons likely would now receive a scholarship. Also, any walk-on that sees the field now is recruited as a PWO.goapps93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 4:01 pmI’m afraid you’re gonna have to find something else to watch. If these guys want to get paid then do away with scholarships and let them pay for college out of their "salary".

Think about it, right now we have kids playing at a different school every year. Clearly, they couldn’t care less about the college aspect of it.
They can no longer call themselves a Mountaineer or a Tar Heel or a Bulldog, or whatever.
If this continues, they won’t even have to be students any longer. That lawsuit is just around the corner in my opinion.
So yeah, college athletics is no longer.

I absolutly understand and agree with your sentiments. With that said college athletics are alive and very well in DIV lll. Kids are there for the love of the sport. I have a grandchild playing a DIV lll non football sport and they have not asked us for dime one. The kids are happy and having fun. I have gone to the DIV lll nat champ in football 5-6 times and these people, players and fans have a great time.KentHogan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 5:48 pmWe’re already there.goapps93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:36 pmI’m really torn. Totally agree, @kenthogan. I read a book earlier this year called “The $hift” that is about youth baseball travel up through college and MLB draft. Very eye opening. There is a very ugly and dark underbelly to all we are seeing and it starts with private equity & youth sports as young as 6 years old.
