I feel like the ETSU coaches took advantage of our inexperienced OL by moving the fronts late. A lot of shifting that prevented adjustments.
They absolutely did. They did a great coaching job to have that team within 7 in the 3rd quarter. Anytime you get an OL that does not have much experience together you test them with a lot of shifts, stunts, blitzes, and anything else you can do to see if you can get to QB. A lot of stuff we can use to clean things up and be ready for Clemson.

I like the Joey forward pitch play. Very “Mahomes-esk” play.

Agree. The OL didn’t give up a sack. A lot of good to build off and some opportunities tof correction. That’s what you need to gain from game 1.

I thought not giving up a sack was very good. I don't expect to go without giving up one against Clemson but hoping that we can make adjustments to run better.

We also utilized the option look short pass that did not work at Wyoming. Although not substantial yardage, execution was much better this year.

Keep in mind we had a starting DE and starting NT on limited reps yesterday, and Hopper didn't play at all. Add in Kelly missing some snaps after getting dinged and we were getting a bit thin on DL.

OL has four new starters so it'll take a bit of time for them to play as a unit. We still had 500 yards of offense despite doing basically nothing for the 2nd quarter.
I get it but I still want to see us be able to push an FCS team around.
What does that look like?
You are never going to agree with any negative critique of the O line. So I’m not even going to try to explain.
So you aren’t interested in a different perspective. Got it.
You only have one perspective, all is good with the O line. And I hope you are always correct.

I have my perspective. That’s no different than anyone here. We can disagree but I have never told someone that they are wrong. I was just curious as to what you saw, or your perspective as to why you feel we didn’t push them around. We threw some deep balls which take time to develop which means the line held blocks for 3+ seconds. We ran the ball pretty well. The defensive line got pressure. The LBs led the team in tackles which is an indicator that the front 3 did there job. They had one long run which was do to a missed assignment, not a systemic issue or concern. That one play represented 1/4 of their total yardage. That’s my perspective. Feel free to disagree.

On the point about the “one” big play for 80 targets, I would say same BUT that has been a frequent occurrence over last couple years. In comparison, the last couple JMU te as ms never seem to yield those regular home run plays against them under Cignetti.

How wonderful to see Harrington out there.

On another note I wonder if we will ever return to using speed and misdirection on the corners with some regularity.

Explosive plays are a frustration for sure. They mostly occur due to effort and execution and not scheme. I don’t know that it is an issue that needs to be fixed. They happen.

I think it's important to remember that ETSU is no pushover...Tre Lamb is a good coach and his LR team went 13-2 last year....AND 23 LR players are now at ETSU.

This is a solid team that will likely be a contender in the Southern Conference.

Remember that when you criticize our performance.

Hell I bet ETSU could beat UNCC

So not trying to be that guy but he coached at GW and was 7-5 last year (co- champs Big South) and 7-6 (reg. season champs) the year before that. ETSU was not that good. It's the first game so there's something to build on but OL needs to play better in the run.

I also remember many on this board last year after GW saying/thinking (me included) that they may be a really good FcS team and that didn’t pan out. I will not make that mistake again.

We did some good things yesterday but also have some work to do. To be where this team wants to to make CFP we gotta cleanup some things. D has to improve. I don’t want to see us give up those big plays on D. We did it numerous times last year. 4.6 ypc against ETSU easily translates to 6-7 ypc against Clemson or a top G5 opponent. That probably means you lose the game.

Take away the 80 yard breakdown and we are at 2.6 ypc. But we did give it up so you can’t take it away. When it is a close game that may be the difference in a W or a L.
