Pretty close, but I honestly don't remember LR being considered a "rival". That status probably goes back to the 70's but had wrapped up before I got to App in 1980. I also wouldn't be so quick to remove GS from the list moving forward but the other two are definitely up there with them.

Unless Marshall is going to be in running for Easter year in and year out...that is TBD.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 6:13 amPretty close, but I honestly don't remember LR being considered a "rival". What made them being an important game while I was in school..was due to them being damn good.

I think at least one of those games was a win and ended with a goalpost being torn down. I lived in Eggers freshman year and recall a club game played on a Sunday after the goalpost went down. They had to go to the other end for kicks.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 8:12 amWe were there the same years, except I took 1 more year to complete my Masters in Hell Raising. Re: ESPN Group of 5 Power Rankings
LR was a 50s and 60s rivalry. By the early 70s the divide was pretty deep. They fielded some good teams though and I think played for and may have won a small college championship way back. It was Western from then on , until it wasn’t. Marshall until they moved up. Southern since. I think the future rival is JMU. Maybe everyone in the East ?
