Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
The portal for QB’s will be easy for us so long that we keep our winning tradition up. Every QB we’ve had has excelled in our system since 2004 (except the 2010-2013 years). Just keep winning and the portal will be a success for us.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:29 pmHopefully just for depth. I love Joey but this is why I was pulling for Burger to win the job and and keep it. We would have been set at the starting spot through 2026. It has to be tough on Shawn thinking he has to go to portal every year for a QB. I am really hoping we start hitting on HS QBs and don't feel the need to get one every cycle after this this year.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:10 pmWiles will be out of eligibility after next year so we'd enter 2026 with Wilson as a RS Sophomore with presumably little experience, a RS Freshmen in Niu, and whatever high school QB(s) we sign next year. That's a dangerous situation to put yourself in.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 12:54 pmI find it interesting that we are already planning to go into the portal automatically without looking to see if there is anyone that could help us or seeing how our guys look on the field. What if it all comes together for Wilson and he looks good in mop up duty or if Wiles has to play some and he impresses? Would we go into the portal despite having 2 capable players? At some point it is okay to put a freshman on the field. Coastal did it with McCall and others have as well. I would love to sign a HS QB who is good enough to put out there as a redshirt freshman. It would be nice to have a 3-4 year starter at QB again.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 12:48 pmI’m not saying that at all. I’ve seen Wilson and he looks like a true freshman. He could be the guy in two years. But it stands to reason that you go in the portal after this year regardless as you don’t really want to go into next season with Wiles as #1 and the next up being a RS and true freshman. There is a situation that I am curious to see how it shakes out but I wouldn’t mind having their backup in Boone next year.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 12:24 pm
If you are referring to Wiles then does that mean people you talk to who have seen our QBs believe that Wilson is a miss? If so, and Niu does not pan out then it will have been a decade since we hit on a HS QB signee (Thomas in 2016). That would be a long drought to not hit on one and mean we have depended solely on the portal or JUCO to get a QB since the portal area started.

Few things would short-circuit your romantic prospects like a first date at the Gold Room.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 2:16 pmOne guy at 295lb on the front 5 depth chart, need to get him in the BI or the Gold Room so we can list him at 300, the days fo the 6'1" - 265 lineman have disappeared through the Portal.
Some of you may fondly or not so fondly remember the Gold Room and Barvarian Inn back in the day.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Absolutely. That is why I have wondered the problem with HS recruiting because we do a good job with the QBs. If we do what we should this year and retain our stars I would think we would be a very attractive place to some proven QBs who might not have a good supporting cast and want to play for a winning program.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:48 pmThe portal for QB’s will be easy for us so long that we keep our winning tradition up. I’m so glad we didn’t play on Thursday night to start. Opening on a Saturday is so much better. That’s a long time between a Thursday and the next Saturday. I’ll live with one random mid week game during the year but two are awful. Saturday is college football day. Go Apps!

GameDay 1. Hard to believe we are already here starting a new season....time flies. Here is to a GREAT year to be a MOUNTAINEER!
We are All familiar with going 1 - 0 one game at a time mindset. I would like to spread rhe mindset to the team of 1- 0 for each play....one play at time.
BEAT the brakes off the Bucs and worry about next week after the Long Rifle Fires. Don't worry about reveal just each player go all out. Pray for safe game no injuries and GOOD FOCUS AND DISCIPLINE.....NO STUPID STUFF.

One relatively small thing I’d like to see this year is for Harrington to play through every game. Not a small thing for him by any means but in the big picture of the team and season it’s not huge. He’s battled and could (and probably should) have called it a career but seems to love it.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
ETSU QB King is type of QB we struggle with and they appear to have a decent o line. I imagine they will be able to move the ball some on us. However, I don’t think they have a much in the way of stopping our offense. It will be good to see how our Oline gels in first game together

Saw something about the game may be delayed due to lightning. Don’t do this to us!
