Rust

Conservative playbook
I’ll be fine with a 25+ win with everybody healthy.

-34.5 on ESPN now, I know they didn't have a spread for a while. I'd probably take us to not cover.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
That is tough because I believe we are 45 points better than ETSU but our staff has a lot to prove this year. I would not take us to cover either based on the past but I am hoping that Shawn and the team is hungry this year and on a mission to make a statement every week.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
It is also that we might hold back especially when we get a decent lead in the 2nd half. And may not even put much of the playbook out there for this game.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
I took ETSU and the points. We are going to run the ball and chew up an already moving clock. The threat of thunderstorms and potential delays will likely affect the rhythm of the game.

Everybody is pumped for the new season, we'll still have kinks to work out so I'm thinking closer than we might like. Anyway the good thing is it'll give everyone enough to bitch about Saturday night until this time next week.

Definitely not gonna cover that. I'd be surprised if we win by more than 3 TD's.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Most coaches say the right thing in terms of winning margins (like they don’t matter) but I think it matters now. We need to keep the foot on the gas every game. Leave no doubt Saturday. I can see one of those sluggish starts like 10-3 first quarter then we put a 21 spot on the second quarter. A 31-3 start to the second half would be nice and having lots of guys get real reps even better.

100%. If there are 2 undefeated G5 teams then the team who was most dominant will likely get the nod. We really need style points. Shawn needs to make statements every week.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:45 pmMost coaches say the right thing in terms of winning margins (like they don’t matter) but I think it matters now. Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
I wonder how the resulting ETSU team feels when a new coach comes in and basically brings his entire team from old school to replace the existing team? Tre brought 24 players, an entire team. Does that seem like you are spitting in the face of the remaining players? How do that many new players blend into new team? Interesting dynamic.

This would be a likely similar situation here if the fire someone crowd had gotten what they wanted.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:14 amI wonder how the resulting ETSU team feels when a new coach comes in and basically brings his entire team from old school to replace the existing team? Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
This has to be the year we put it together. It's the new CFP, we are coming off a strong finish with a bowl win, and it's the last year with Joey and some key players. We may never get another shot like this one.
