Clemson Win or ECU Loss

Unread post by Saint3333 » Mon Jul 22, 2024 12:24 pm

Spacemonkey brought up beating ECU as more important in another thread, led me down the path of this:

Would you trade a win vs. Clemson is it meant a loss vs. ECU?

We'd be seen as a worse team and Clemson would be seen as a bad team if we beat Clemson and then lost to EZU.

Clemson win, but only if Clemson were a good team at the end of the year unlike A&M was.

If we were to beat both, one school would probably look for a new coach and the other would get a raise.

Yes. ECU is a peer school who we will likely see on the schedule with some frequency. At some point, we will stub our toe and they will win one. It's inevitable if you play the game enough. Clemson is a statement win. You don't get those opportunities often.

But please don't lose to ECU.

This might be the last time Clemson schedules us. Too risky in the ACC currently. You lose 1 and you're done.

Clemson can loose to us and still win the ACC...

Feel the same way. I want to beat both of them badly though.

An ECU loss has more downside than a Clemson win has upside. Why? Because of common opponents. We both play Liberty and ODU and they play UTSA which is a favorite to win the AAC. Those results could be placed side-by-side when it comes to determining who gets the CFP spot in the playoffs.

Forgot about the automatic bid! Another dumb rule by playoff committee.

Yeah, and in a way, we did something close to this scenario with A&M, i.e. nearly losing to Troy and then losing to JMU. And it didn't turn out great.

Clemson will probably lose to UGA, so us beating them would make them 0-2, at which point there'd be more "what's wrong with Clemson" reaction than praise for us. Which would be reinforced by the subsequent loss to ECU.

If they start 0-2 with NC State and FSU looming, all hell will break loose in Pickens County.

They might raise hell but Dabo is still safe because of that buyout. Clemson fans are nervous though because they don't have faith in their QB play at all.

As an Eastern NC guy in upbringing (have not lived there since 1992), it will be a long road to tow over the holidays if we lose to EasyU. Too many family and friends that attended EasyU because they could not get admitted anywhere else (😂😂😂😂)...So, we need to win both. I cannot bring myself to say the "L" before a game has been played.... especially in July. We going 1-0 each and every week!!!

Easy yes to that. Clemson win gets headlines...ECU game nationally no one will notice either way. Also Clemson win potentially helps us more than ECU loss hurts us....ex/ a resume of a Sunbelt Championship with wins over ranked Liberty and ranked P5 Clemson, and some other good SB teams...could bump us into the tope ranked G5 = playoff

Yes, for selfish reasons, because I'll be at the Clemson game but not in Greenville for ECU.

Hopefully, Clemson will beat Georgia and that will wear them out so much that they lose to us and Norfolk State and ODU whoop up on ECU so our job will be easier too.

plenty of time to beat ECU in the near future. Even if we lose we will have still won the series 2-1.

When you get a chance to beat a team that has won 2 national championships in the last 10 years, that is the game I want to win.
