Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Stat cast shows a double play ended the inning, so it ends in a 12-12 tie.

Tommy Walker was playing 3rd and started the 5-4-3 double play to end it in a tie.

We stay 9th. Only 2.5 games out of 2nd place while two losses away from potentially out of the Sun Belt Tournament in 11th.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Our bullpen has to figure something out in a hurry. We're right in the battle for a top six position. Our offense is top three but pitching is dead last.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Remaining schedule and their current RPI:
App RPI 82
Team RPI
ETSU 47
Ga St 66
Wake 9
SAla 68
ODU 60
Stink 67
Going to be a wild finish with a strong remaining schedule, we have a chance to shock the belt!

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
We have the 2nd most RBIs in the Sun Belt.
If the team ERA was 5.0 instead of 7.0+, we'd be in 2nd place nipping at Louisiana's heels right now.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Wow, UL with a 3.69- that is impressive.
Coastal with a 5.60- we contributed to this!
I’d take a 5.60 in a heart beat. Maybe even a 6.00-6.50 ERA.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
You should win a game when you score twelve runs, unless you give up 12. The one thing you can say about this team, you can never count them out with their ability to score runs. Of course, with only one reliable starting pitcher, it's hard to think we can last long against the top of the league.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I have a couple of questions for you guys that played and possibly coached at the college level. At this point in the season, how difficult would it be to move Steensma to your Friday starter over Wilson? He seems to give us the best chance to start the series off right. Per statistics, he only goes a half inning longer than Wilson, but he has half the earned runs and his WHIP is much better. (1.15/1.8) Why not move him up? What am I missing?

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
While I agree will the statement - 6 more wins probably gets you into the top six. Then it's literally 1 game at a time and anything can happen. Get hot (be average/above average) at the right time pitching and stay consistent hitting.hapapp wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 6:23 amYou should win a game when you score twelve runs, unless you give up 12. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
It is worth pointing out that we're currently at 22 wins with 14 games to play. Last year we finished the regular season with 27 wins before hitting 30 in the SBC Tournament. The league is rated even higher than last year, and this weekend was the first time we've not lost a road conference game since 2018. It wasn't a sweep, but it's clear road sweeps are very hard to come by. All of this just reinforces the point that we can beat anyone in the conference if pitching can improve a bit.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Excellent analysis. I think we can break the 27 wins, the goal should be 30+! Also have to take games played into account...not sure how many we played last year at this point, but this year it looks like we're only going to play 51 total regular season games. The maximum a team can play is 56. Maybe we make up some of those cancelled games, but I doubt it. Going to be a fun last 2.5 weeks! That series finale against Stink in Boone could be another attendance record setter if we're hot and the weather is good.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 8:22 amIt is worth pointing out that we're currently at 22 wins with 14 games to play. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
We had many of the same pitching issues last year prior to getting hot down the stretch so it's not unrealistic to think we could improve there. As good as our offense has been this year (possibly best ever) we still haven't had everyone hitting well at the same time. That 1 through 9 depth is what made last May so special.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 8:41 amExcellent analysis. I think we can break the 27 wins, the goal should be 30+! This is slightly off-topic, but I enjoy when the cameras show the "chainsaw starting" motion when our kids hit doubles.
