at Wake Forest
At one time did we not have a game at Wake on the schedule. I was looking at FBS Schedules and there is nothing mentioning Wake and that goes out to 2033 or some crazy distant future. What happened?

Re: at Wake Forest
Our game at Wake was in 2020 and the ACC cancelled all non-conference games. Don't think it ever got re-scheduled but I thought that was supposed to happen.

Re: at Wake Forest
I thought at some point after 2020 we had Wake at Wake set up for 2024. At one point I had a daughter working at Wake and thought I might have an in for tickets. Maybe my memory on that is off a bit.

Re: at Wake Forest
Getting cheap tickets at a Wake home game has never been a prob for me unless I wanted 50 yard line or something.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 4:41 pmI thought at some point after 2020 we had Wake at Wake set up for 2024. Back in the 90s Wake would send out info to schools in the Triad about Education Day and I think there was a discount for the App State game.

Re: at Wake Forest
iirc the ACC didn't cancel non conference games. The gov of NC I think said in-state teams could only play games within NC. Which was just fine since App and Wake's game would qualify. Wake cancelled anyway. They were scared to play us.

Re: at Wake Forest
At first glance, WF adding ULL to their 2024 schedule could be perceived by App fans as adding insult to injury.
Take comfort in the truth: after watching us take UNC the distance in three straight seasons, WF wants no part of it.
We'll just continue to let them hide behind their arrogance...

Wake being a private school isn’t subject to the gov of NC’s mandates.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:54 pm

Re: at Wake Forest
Are you sure of this with 100% certainty? ALL schools be they public, private, or religious must enforce vaccination requirements of children. Private schools don't get a pass on that (thank goodness.) This may have been something similar since it was concerning a public health emergency.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 8:59 pmWake being a private school isn’t subject to the gov of NC’s mandates.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:54 pm

Depending on the order as issued , they may have been subject. I don’t recall. But yes they don’t want us beating up on them .

Re: at Wake Forest
Every P5 will have a better chance to make the playoffs than us. Good G5's probably need to play one or two good P5's and win their respective conferences in order to be the top ranked G5. A team like a Wake won't want that "bad loss" we would hang on them.

Re: at Wake Forest
I don't think this is correct. App is an in-state NC team and would have been subject to the governor's ruling but we played OOC games including Marshall, Campbell and Charlotte . It was a conference decision by the ACC which is why Notre Dame played in the ACC for football for that year only.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 6:54 pm

Re: at Wake Forest
Am I 100% certain? No. But Wake, as a private institution isn’t under any obligation to follow the Governor’s directive. Aside from the fact that from a fiscal standpoint, if you are Wake and are limited in your revenue stream from attendance, you definitely don’t play an App St. in a 3/4 empty stadium when you can fill it up later on.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:52 pmAre you sure of this with 100% certainty? Yep, we have beaten them 7 times and lost 15 and tied 1. But all but 1 were on Wake's home field.

Re: at Wake Forest
Weren’t we historically some of their largest crowds? At least up until the time they stopped scheduling us?

Re: at Wake Forest
here you go!
" Appalachian State and Wake Forest have agreed to postpone their nonconference game scheduled for Sept. 11 to a future year. Wake Forest's news release cited the reduced fan capacity for the game between programs separated by 86 miles.
Wake Forest is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which has announced that league teams will play 10 conference games and one nonconference matchup played in the ACC member's home state.
Appalachian State is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, which has announced that league teams will play eight conference games and the option to add as many as four nonconference opponents."
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ame-future
We could have played the game legally but Wake ducked out, claiming the game was too important to play for the state of North Carolina with reduced seating. Part of the agreement included a trip to Boone, which State, Carolina and East Carolina have all scheduled since then.
But 4 years later, the Wake game still has not been scheduled, despite it's importance to the state of North Carolina. They are scared.

Re: at Wake Forest
The hope was to have all the games by 2030, but Wake just did a big schedule release and App wasn't mentioned or on it.
The games are still on the future schedules list.
