I feel that we will be very competitive that game if we can beef the OL and DL. Clemson isn’t its old self anymore struggling in about every game they play.
Out of curiosity, how much bigger do you feel that we need to get? Particularly along the OL.
10+ pounds across the board- which could just mean another off-season of S&C for the returners. Think we all know the DL has to get bigger in the middle but Hopper held his own!
Not unreasonable but 10+ lbs doesn’t guarantee better. People seem to get caught up in the measurables (height and weight) and not the speed, footwork and hand strength. The best DL in the NFL is 6’1” 285 ((Aaron Donald) and the best Center is 6’3” 282 (Jason Kelce). Just saying.
True. But how many of our guys are even at that weight on DL. With proper S&C training, you can have both.
I am just looking at it from the NT position but Clark is there and Kelly and Hopper aren’t far below. I would take the weights on the athletic website with a grain of salt. The DEs don’t need to be that big.

Or position, 90 played more like a defensive lineman as compared to a LB. If his future is more like a lineman, he has got to get heavier. I question whether he was even 230. It is all great to have speed, footwork and hand strength. OLs can have that too. S some of our guys can have that and add weight.

Specifically speaking of 90, it’s important to remember that he is still an 18-19 year old kid so his bony is still developing and I imagine that his metabolism is probably racing at a pace that makes it difficult to add and maintain weight. I’m sure there is a plan for him in place, it just takes more time for some. As for his current weight, I am not good at gauging that. I’ve stood and talked with him and he is a tall kid with a nice frame. But I’ve also stood next to Mike Alstott and Hulk Hogan and thought to myself that these guys aren’t all that big. :D

He reminds me a lot of Jason Hunter in how he moves. Different scheme obviously but I feel like Nate could play standing or in stance and be good.

The thing about NJ #90, is that you want to add weight without compromising one of his more favorable attributes. Nate has incredible bend that he uses to get around the edge. If you get him up to 245 or even 260, do you affect how he plays? It’s a balance.

Hopefully at 6’5 he can still do that at 245lbs. Anything more than that and he’s gone to UGA or Bama.

Too bad we are in an age where we can get our stars/future NFL type talent poached.

The past 10 years we've been the best, let's stay there. 2024 could be a great year.

Did Funderburk have another year of eligibility?

I thought so. Today he announced that he was declaring for the NFL Draft . Made me think twice.

I thought Funderburk was one of the unsung heroes of our defense.

I could be off base here, but it seems like we’re living in the portal for the back half of our defense. Not sure if we’re missing on the kids we recruit or they are just getting beat out by the transfers.

I disagree to certain extent.. Parker at LB, Fletcher at DL..
DL, like OL, are difficult to get in portal..due to supply and demand..good ones anyway..

Flip side is that we went to the portal to address our weakest link in 2022. The new players worked out and we were tied for 15th in the nation in Interceptions and 28th in allowed passing efficiency.

Historically, App has done quite well with its transfers or maybe they are the only ones we hear about like Daniel Jeremiah; he transferred from what is now ULM.

I agree but I also think that the future and pre portal are going to be different. In the past when i guy hd to sit out a year he put a lot more thought into it and as a result there were not as many. Now they jump in and out at will.
