Re: JMU Exception
Gives the ESPN producers enough time to come up with something else to talk about Saturday.
Seriously though it's time for JMU to accept it is what it is and stop bringing this up. Cheer loud for those teams that can beat those teams that are close to bowl eligible, and hope it works out for the best and that they can still get a bowl bid but put this to bed.
There have been so many other examples of teams denied, and can'take an exception at this point on the season. Would impact many other schools such as App, Coastal and Southern who are still in the mix. Would also impact Tulane or other possible eligible G5 schools for the NY6 bid. I know schools don't think of others when they request something like this, but it's part of the reality of the situation.
There's even basketball examples...Merrimack and Bellarmine won their conference tournaments in basketball after recently moving up to D1, only to watch the team they beat be called on Selection Sunday.

Re: JMU Exception
Here's something that has baffled me...and I think someone else brought it up.... If they can't play for the SBC, then why should wins and losses count against other teams in the SBC? Out of conference team wins and losses don't play into SBC conference rankings.

Re: JMU Exception
Glad to see this. Had the NCAA given in, then App and Stink would have had a serious bone to pick based on 2015.

Re: JMU Exception
I don't really care but I'm curious. On the off chance that JMU wins out and there aren't enough 6-6 teams to fill bowl spots are they going to put probably a top 15 unbeaten team in a crappy bowl against some 5-7 P5 or 6-6 CUSA team?

Re: JMU Exception
Probably. Can't see how you go from ineligible, to backing in by way of not enough teams being eligible, and getting one of the "better" bowl games.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:32 pmI don't really care but I'm curious. Re: JMU Exception
I know one thing if I was the coach at JMU I would use this to motivate my team. No Sun Belt championship and no bowl game. Hey guys the only thing we can do now is destroy everybody else we play and show them all how wrong they were for not giving a chance to be conference champions and not allowing us a shot at an NY6 game. We damn sure better strap it up on Saturday.

Motivation doesn’t last 60 minutes unless you let it. If we can stave off the initial blast and gain an advantage, that motivation can begin to work against them.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 9:38 amI know one thing if I was the coach at JMU I would use this to motivate my team. Besides, we have our own set of motivations. Nothing is set in stone for #Teamclark yet. But it could be after Saturday if things go right.

Re: JMU Exception
The answer here is very simple- because absolutely nothing the NCAA does make a lick of sense. You're right, if they aren't eligible wins and losses against them shouldn't count for conference standings. However, when the NCAA made the rule, they decided they should, so they do.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:53 pmHere's something that has baffled me...and I think someone else brought it up.... Re: JMU Exception
Well, our six wins in 2014 counted against Sun Belt teams.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:53 pmHere's something that has baffled me...and I think someone else brought it up.... Re: JMU Exception
And if logic was boss with the NCAA.....They wouldn't have counted. My point was the stupidity of the rules and how they enforce them. They have contradictory rules that just don't make sense. Def need some updating after this year.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 12:24 pmWell, our six wins in 2014 counted against Sun Belt teams.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:53 pmHere's something that has baffled me...and I think someone else brought it up.... Re: JMU Exception
This rule really is illogical but alas it's a rule. I agree if you are transitioning up none of your wins in conference should count. Now the attorney general in Va is threatening a lawsuit. Wow

Many Va Tech and UVa alum in my area- I love reminding them that the best two teams in Va do not include either of their schools.

Re: JMU Exception
What I see coming from the lawsuit is, not enough teams become bowl eligible, JMU gets in a bowl, then it goes away...or JMU doesn't make a bowl game and the school earns some $$$ which does nothing for the athletes, but helps the schoolBigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 1:33 pmThis rule really is illogical but alas it's a rule.
