I'd be cautious as much of that run was under Gregg Marshall. They've been once in three years since his tenure ended and they just fired their replacement coach. They are bringing in the former Oral Roberts coach who had success but it remains to be seen whether Wichita State will reclaim the heights from the mid 2010s.VNova wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:33 pmCorrect, but their basketball team has made the basketball tournament 7 times in the last 10 years.Appst86 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:57 amWichita State has not had a football program since 1986.VNova wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 12:52 pmI can’t imagine PAC would want every school in the AAC. I imagine Navy going back to indie than be in a coast-to-coast conference.
If I had to guess, the four schools I’d pick are long-standing AAC members west of the Mississippi. Maybe Wichita State, SMU, Tulsa, and Tulane.
I know, basketball doesn’t drive realignment but still an option for a desperate conference looking for someone closer to the footprint.

Either way as long as the aac exists there is no path for ecu to join the sun belt

Re: PAC-12 melt down
Ok that makes sense. Even if ECU desperately wanted to be in the sunbelt there is no reason to even have perfunctory discussions due to the exit fee. No one is spending $10MM (really $17MM since no one wants a lame duck year or 2) to make $2MM/year media deal. Just isn't happening.Stonewall wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 6:22 pmThe 20-21 expansion. That's how ODU slipped in ....BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:21 amRecently being in the 2020/2021 realignment phase or during this current phase?

Re: PAC-12 melt down
There were , and perhaps still are , people of influence , who encouraged them to evaluate the Belt. For all of the obvious reasons , but they were politley rebuffed for the reason you outlined plus TV $ .ECU had an invitation if they would have accepted , not unlike our situation with AAC.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 7:53 amOk that makes sense. Tweet here aside, I keep seeing unc and ncsu tied together. Would unc really not go somewhere without ncsu? It makes me wonder if state legislators or money movers don't want them separated.

It is my understanding are tied together until they are not...I e. If UNC were offered crazy amount of money ...maybe it will change..but for now, they are a package deal so to speak.
...and, yes, politicians and rich alumni are both inserting influence behind the scenes to keep them intact....but my humorous guess is.. UNC bolts like a hooker on the strip if the money is right

Re: PAC-12 melt down
If it’s a money grab then the Big10 is the only real option available in terms of leaving. ESPN controls both the ACC and the SEC. So why would a network that is hemorrhaging money would voluntarily give them $40 million more in media money to have them switch from one ESPN property to another?

State should act in its best interest and if that means hamstringing UNCCH, oh well.
SC learned that lesson from Clemson when they left the ACC.

State totally whiffed a few years ago when they could have lobbied for a spot in the SEC.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
Any team who had an opportunity to join the SEC and did not even attempt it is going to look dumb. They are the only league without a buyout for a reason. I wonder why NC State did not try?

Re: PAC-12 melt down
BOG would have to bless either school moving on , doubt that happens unless they both leave - not necessarily for the same destination but greener pastures.I could see UNCCH in the Big 10 and NCS in the SEC at some point giving both leagues a presence in the 9th or so most populus state.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
Wow. If anyone thinks this is going to be fair to the g5 under some delusion that being a top g5 conference is going to get preference then don't be too disappointed when it's 3 big 10, 3 sec, 2 acc, 2 pacX, and 2 at large. They are going to consolidate power worse than it already is.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
Numbers are starting to come out. ACC could take home a nice new chunk. It might be enough to keep FSU happy and not leave in the coming years.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
I hope that the Pac-12 is somehow able to convince their 4 remaining to stay and add several from both the AAC and MWC. If that happens the SBC stands a good chance to flip some teams from the AAC that they would like. If Aresco gets his way then the AAC would now be the 5th best league by a long shot with SBC being #6 and MWC would then be #7.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
It sounds like the ACC is indeed adding those schools. If this happens and the MWC adds OSU, WSU, and a couple AAC schools I am wondering if that increases the chances that the Sun Belt is able to add Memphis and ECU?

AAC would have to be just about demolished .They will look to poach SBC schools perhaps?

Re: PAC-12 melt down
It will be interesting to see what happens if they lose several. Would the schools the AAC has interest in leave or would the Sun Belt actually be able to poach a couple from them?
