A problem with adding 4 schools as suggested is IMO most fans want to see teams from the other division. The SBC is currently strong and should stand pat for now. Not getting any ACC school at least in the near future. Charlotte or Liberty for the East division? FAU or FIU returning to the Sun Belt? Possibilities seem limited.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:49 amI am curious what folks on YC think SBC should do. Chips are going to fall with even more realignment. Personally, I would like to see SBC add fours teams..two to East and two to west...so each side does not play each other until championship game...

Only way I see it as a good move for SBC to expand further is if Papa ESPN is pushing (and paying well) for it. If they believe that is the future and want to sponsor the expansion by way of sweetening the media deal, I would be all for it. Add teams that dilute the current arrangement would be crazy.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
I, for one, don’t care about playing the teams from the western division. It’s fine, but with the exception of UL and Troy who just moved to the west there isn’t a ton of meat on that bone (for me). If we’re good enough we’ll face a west team in the CCG. And, if a rivalry means that much to us and they’re not on our regular season schedule, play them “OOC”.BurkeGrad wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 10:03 amA problem with adding 4 schools as suggested is IMO most fans want to see teams from the other division. In my opinion too much was made in the SEC about wanting to see the other division’s team more often and the same is happening here. It’s never been about servicing the fans wants - it’s been about spreading the incoming brands (A&M, Texas and OU) around so every TV market gets a taste. Ultimately I think it’s pointing out the folly of conferences going bigger. Conferences have added until members can’t play everyone regularly, then pundits, not fans, complain they’re not playing everyone regularly, then to fix the “problem” you have to stop playing your division opponents (who you actually care about) so you can play teams from 1,000 miles away more. Huh??? What sense does that make?

I wish we would go to a 9 team SBC Schedule now. I would like the 9 game schedule to always be your 9 closest sbc teams. It may be tough to decide who should be in the championship but it could be done. Maybe only your East games count towards the East Championship representation. I would like to build the name recognition and rivalry with Southern Miss, Troy and South Alabama.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
You add Charlotte and ECU to the East Division of the SBC or A&T instead of Charlotte and the SBC East splits off and forms a new conference called the SoCon FBS. This new conference is the envy of all other conferences because the footprint is so small. This new conference becomes so powerful that it never loses an out of conference game and comes to dominate college football as well as all other college sports because of money saved on travel costs.
I know this last sentence was a run on sentence, but a conference like this goes on a roll like a run on sentence.

Re: PAC-12 melt down
No way Stanford joins the AAC. Stanford has more national championships than any other school AND they are the most prominent academic school outside of the Ivys. NO WAY they join up with academic stalwarts the likes of ECU or Charlotte. It just won't ever happen. Perhaps Oregon State and Washington State go but no way Stanford and I would really be surprised if Cal did as well.

Stanford, cal, and whoever is is left in the PAC 4 would be better served absorbing the mountain west than joining the east coast conferences. They would get boise state, san diego state and a few others with some football and basketball pedigree.

In a dream world: add ECU or Charlotte to the East and UAB and SMU to the West.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:49 amI am curious what folks on YC think SBC should do. Chips are going to fall with even more realignment. It is a possibility that ACC is next...and down to P3..

Stanford and Cal joining the ACC would be interesting.
I sorta wonder if it moves the needle for ND to be in the same conference with such high ranking academic schools...

I’d rather go to an Eric Church concert than to have Charlotte in the Sun Belt.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 3:58 pmIn a dream world: add ECU or Charlotte to the East and UAB and SMU to the West.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:49 amI am curious what folks on YC think SBC should do. Re: PAC-12 melt down
Fair, but GA and NC are basically the same size (8th and 9th in population) a second NC school (in a dream world) makes sense. I HATE Charlotte too, but if we're being honest, they add to the conference. I say that only because I see no real upside to ECU.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:15 pmI’d rather go to an Eric Church concert than to have Charlotte in the Sun Belt.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 3:58 pmIn a dream world: add ECU or Charlotte to the East and UAB and SMU to the West.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:49 amI am curious what folks on YC think SBC should do. ECU has more fans in Charlotte than Charlotte. That’s their upside.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:25 pmFair, but GA and NC are basically the same size (8th and 9th in population) a second NC school (in a dream world) makes sense. Stanford in the ACC? The conferences don't give a damn about the players, the schools or the fans and the schools don't care about the players or the fans. One day the chickens will come home to roost.

ACC seems worse after this move. To me local lower teams would be of more interest than Stanford and Cal.
