There are plenty of capable graphic artist in a stones throw of these schools that can give them there own unique brand (logo & color combo) to promote and be proud of.

I think Apex is Green & Gold. I was told Coach Moore came up with the Block A logo and also gave Apex permission to use it. Just what I was told.

Re: App copyright case
That is correct about Coach Moore coming up with the white block A and the cursive Mountaineers under the A's line.

Re: App copyright case
Wonder how long it takes some parent to complain that the new logo promotes unhealthy habits since the mountaineer has a pipe?

That's a battle I would be happy to lose. That dang phrase curls my nose hairs.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: App copyright case
You act like there is a small supply of logos but there are pretty much an infinite number of possibilities. They literally just spent $500 and got 250 unique designs that aren't a direct rip off of another school. Why couldn't they do that from the beginning?appdaze wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 7:43 pmYou are correct in their straight copy of it. I think my rant is more towards the frequency at which this is happening now. This App article is just another in a long string of these situations that are just going to leave high/middle schools with next to nothing. Something has to give somewhere.Ncmtn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 4:30 pmThey literally copied the exact logo. Yea that’s not allowed and never should be. App State is legally required to defend their copyright or they could lose the copyright completely. Which would allow anyone to create merchandise with that logo and the university wouldn’t get a penny. That school messed up and they’re correcting it by having a new custom logo designed. There are many ways to depict a mountaineer that isn’t an exact replica of a copyrighted logo.

These are their new logos
It doesn't take long to look things up to find similar logos. The "hiker" is clearly yet another Daniel Boone/Davy Crockett logo which are a dime a dozen. The others are very similar to the ones ASU has used before and other mountaineer/mountain man logos from other schools. There really aren't infinite possibilities. Thousands of logos are used every day that would break copyright law if challenged. The rights owners typically overlook them as not all are willing to go the court route. At this point, Everything is being copyrighted https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/tra ... magination
Lots of schools have their colors trademarked. Unique is a matter of opinion and the only opinion that matters in these cases are those of a judge. Before you think, "Naw, there is enough difference blah blah blah," People/companies have been sued for infringement for less similar logos. The bias of uniqueness can be influenced by how much money is on the line. Copyrights/trademarks are a dog-eat-dog world.

Re: App copyright case
I was at a Knights game last week wearing my App shirt and as I walked by a group of young folks, someone said "Go Neers" (at least didn't say Roll). It really didn't even register what she had said until I was well past them. I did stop and speak on my way back. The whole group was App grads (very recent) and they were nice, but I just can't get used to hearing "Neers"
